Gazza M This. I had posted something similar in another thread around Liverpool's ability to consistently bring in attacking talent over the last 15 years while we all wring our hands that no one is available - dating all the way back to Torres. Even when they were yo-yoing up and down the table under Rodgers, this was the case. It's perhaps why VVD and Allisson have been critical to their success since this was the area of the pitch most neglected historically.
Premier League 24/25
Bernard Woolley I think we were an equal or better attacking force during the Torres years. we still had cesc-rvp then. it shifted from the suarez years onwards. they have hit greater attacking heights than us under 3 different managers now

Gazza M in the main, liverpool have pursued and executed a superior brand of attacking football to arsenal for the last 10 years. it's a hard and uncomfortable truth, which is why some of us sound wounded in this thread.
Fact check: in the last two full league seasons, Arsenal has outscored Liverpool by 13 and 5 goals.
Claudius yeah but those kinds of stats don't always give you the full picture. For example our last 5 European away ties we've scored 5 goals which seems reasonable but by fixtures we actually failed to score in 4 games. So while the overall number looks okay it masks a pretty big issue. Failing to score in that amount of games more consistently gets you knocked out or is going to pretty significantly damage your title ambitions.
Liverpool are more exciting to watch, it's true. Then again, so are Tottenham.
Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert well Diaz has 7 goals. Saka has 5 and Martinelli has 4, Trossard has 3. Meanwhile Salah has 15. That's the real difference.
It's amazing that we've actively pursued replicating the tactics of the team that has won the last 4 consecutive titles, but fans would rather we were more like the team that has only won one.
No, they would rather we were more like the team that has only won one than like the one who has won zero.
Qwiss fair enough. I thought Saka had more than that
Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert Saka has plenty of assists.
Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert yeah we spread the goals pretty well compared to Liverpool. They have just 3 more than us overall but rely really heavily on Salah. Its why I think they are fucked without him.
Unfortunately we now get to find out how fucked we are without Saka. Who knows maybe not relying on him will cause us to spread it around more and be less predicable and right side focussed.
We don't play like Liverpool, because we've opted to emulate a team which has superior tactics. Tactics which allowed us to leapfrog Liverpool.
I think saying we emulate City is a bit of shallow analysis really. You may as well be calling Arteta "lego Pep" or whatever other derogatory things people say about him being Peps assistant. Arteta has plenty of his own ideas and I don't think we could even emulate City if he wanted to without their resources and rule breaking.
awooga83 Scored more consistently
The difference between allowed 0 / scored 0 is +2.
Liverpool were a good distance behind us on points last season don't forget. Did onlookers think they were more efficient than us at securing three points in this league then? For a lot of 2024 we'd won pretty much every away match we'd played.
Some of us are getting carried away. Liverpool have Salah firing and they're having a fortunate run this season. They needed an 83rd minute penalty to see off Southampton, they're not that good.

What we've emulated is pinning teams back and controlling the game in the opponents half. We've had the second highest number of touches in the attacking third in the league after City over the last few years. That is at odds with playing with more verticality and pace, but is also a superior tactic then whatever Liverpool do.
We finished ahead of them in the last two season and very well would have done the same this season had we not suffered so many injuries and refereeing decisions. It happens.

daredevil and if we leapfrog Liverpool you won't hear me complaining about not being enough like Liverpool.
