Was there a more recent leg-break?

Anyway, during one of those breaks he was expecting an offer of extension when we were instead wanting to see how the injury would pan out. I'm trying to find the article where I read that.

As much as we'd all love to see him stay, the idea that it's "disgraceful" from the club is a bit much. He's a RB, at the end of his career (never mind that he's still brilliant), and we can't make him our top (or joint top) earner, for 3 years. It's not true to say we can. Most we can do is say "fuck reason, make an exception - it's Bac!" - which is an argument I actually respect. But we cannot pretend that it's a straight forward black and white thing: he's the best ever - pay him whatever he's asking for. That's very naive.

Still hoping for a miracle happy ending (talk about naive 🙂 ).

Right. That's around the time he should have received his last contract with a significant pay rise. If we had been negotiating for a while we put it on hold. I remember stories suggesting as much.

Unless he has a poor agent he'd have been looking to get a rise in 2010 itself.

One can view it however one wants but the fact is we've had no problem in extending deals of 10-15 other players of the team barring him.

Totally agree with your stance, Yuv.

Respect the man immensely and will be sad to see him go, if that's how it works out, but he knows exactly what he's doing. He's priced us out of a new contract realistically because he's at an age where this is his last big contract and winning a trophy or two is now or never. Certainly not 'disgraceful' that the club haven't offered him what he wants. You got to live in the real world, if what he was asking for was doable we'd have done it, just like we have with 10 other players in the last 12 months.

In saying that, I think he's finding that he's going to struggle to get the money he wants elsewhere and also find a starting role at a club that he can win the major trophy or two he wants. Still reckon he'll stay.

I think he's got 4 good years left in him but as a centreback

That said we are linked to n'koulou who I think is brilliant so let's do that

He'd be a good option for Barcelona. They still haven't really replaced Puyol.

Though i don't think they can afford to pay Sagna massive wages.

He'd be a fool to go to City. They'll use him as a back-up for Zab because they use him as an attacking outlet quite often in their system. Oh well if it pays the bills and all.

I still hope he'll stay; I'm hoping that the FFP sanctions on City (and PSG) have thrown a spanner in the works. If City agree to the squad reductions then I can't see them going for Sagna; they've already got 3 non-homegrown players too many.

Will be very sad to see him go.

For PSG he makes sense. Cheap and French. Pool should be fine on homegrown as well, so they would do well to throw 100k+ at him. And then there's United. Plenty of homegrown nonsense. No right backs.

The Times reckon he's told everyone that he's joining City.

Strange move for me, but there you go.

He's going to be disappointing when we win the league next season.

Don't begrudge him a move, he's been an outstanding player for us and a perfect professional. Just wish it wasn't an English club, but what can you do.

yup, been a steady servant. Still hope he moves elsewhere and not among the top teams in England.

See you in the community shield game.

If he actually leaves (still think there can be a possible uturn post final victory and celebrations- touch wood) then at least he is 'only' going to City (assuming these rumours are true).

Imagine the reaction if he left and went and joined Utd or Chelsea or even Liverpool. Outcry.

Not really, they would be getting a player that is clearly past it. Another 'old' player for United would be quite funny.

City move would be annoying. It furthers the notion that we are their nursery, although he'd probably be the most accomplished player they've taken from us. 3 of their 4 recruits were a mess.

This is a bit of a mess up. We have a decent squad. If just needs better coaching and two super quality players. City will take him because they have no funds. Our keeping him would put city under more pressure this summer
