lorddulaarsenal dont think so. if the player wants to leave 3 years into an 8 year deal, and there is in interest in the player, they can sell the player and bring back funds. which theyve clearly done this window. the only way it ends up hurting them is if they pay big money for a player and that player gets hurt (and cant be sold) or the player completely nosedives and not even mid table teams want them

Wolves did not want to sell Nunes to City until they had a replacement, they did not have much time...they got the replacement....from Girona.

You make it sound like this is rare. There is a strong likelihood that a lot of the signings they make won't pan out and they won't be able to shift them.

Pepe LeFrits which players havent they been able to shift recently? they sold a worthless player to arsenal for £65m this summer. they've sold a bunch of other guys with very low profiles for balogun fees.

signing a longer contract is bad for the player in most cases, because it limits their leverage. its almost never a bad deal for the club itself. especially now that the saudi bailout fund is available too

I bet most Chelsea fans are sitting there wondering how we got 35m for some unknown kid who was loaned out to Reims. Your ignorance of Chelsea prospects is expected and other clubs fans would be equally ignorant of ours.

Unless, you have your finger on the pulse regarding all the young loanees across different clubs and their subsequent performances, there's no way to say who is worth what. Only indicator really is the level of interest in the player and how much prospective clubs are offering.

There's not a whole lot the selling club can do to affect that. It's the market demand that informs the price. Demand always dictates the price, yet our management are lambasted for not being able to get other clubs to spend money on our wantaways.

They've also got mountains of deadwood that they had to write off huge amounts on. They spent €115m on Lukaku and can't get a buyer for him, lost €44m on Pulisic, €15m on Koulibaly, €12m on Aubayemang, Bakayoko 40m, Rahman 26, Ziyech...

Amortisation isn't an infinite money cheat. 1bn stretched over 8 year contracts is still a 125m a year that they need to cover. That'd be somewhere between 22-25% of their revenue, which at least this season is going to fall significantly. It doesn't sound like they're being prudent with their wage bill either so selling players is probably going to be needed every season for them to comply, and probably a lot of them.

Qwiss heh, I think it's unlikely. And I say that as someone who was generally pro Iwobi in his time with us.

He basically said £22m a good deal for Everton, good on his day, completely ineffective when not but zero creativity left in the side now.

Always liked Holding and wish him well. Solid defender who played in 2 FA Cup Final wins. Harry Kane would swap everything to have his medals.
We look very short in defence now and can see a situation where we have Elneny at CB.

More like the RFEF mob the way it's been going, for sure. The Rubiales saga alerts you to how fucked up things are there, quite aside from RFEF flip-flopping around, it leads you to these disputes over the women's game even being thought of as professionalised.

Can't draw a straight line to things like Greenwood heading over there, but …

Burnwinter the Rubiales stuff is the most insane thing that's happened in football in a minute and it weirdly flies under the radar mostly

The Spanish FA are not just openly beefing their own government (for getting involved in what could well be a criminal fucking matter too), they've threatened to pull out of all UEFA competitions because of it which would mean no Madrid Barca Atletico etc in CL.

They're basically pointing a gun at their own head to bully UEFA into pressuring the Spanish government to back away off of the FA president ffs.

HomeSteak Guess it means Girona are a de facto "second list" for them, where they can spread a few players, signing and releasing. It is corrupt, pretty similar to what Chelsea were doing with Vitesse but more out in the open.
