Another hit or miss punt?
Never heard of the guy hence the question mark.

Had to tell, Wenger sniffed out Suarez just before he really exploded, same with Diego Costa. Hopefully he's done it again and the negotiaters get the deal done.

So, Perez and Mustafi it is. And the only sign of madness is the one growing in Wenger's mind.

El bielorruso dice que si Vardy no va al Arsenal,el Arsenal terminará por fichar a Lucas Pérez,al que ya vinieron a ver en invierno a Riazor

Above user claimed in June itself that we will sign Lucas Perez if we fail with Vardy #ITK

Not really, more like the one growing on the morons who bought into the madness bullshit made up by a mental case.

Good window if we get in Perez and Mustafi.

I doubt anyone in here has actually bought into it for example.

Although it is thoroughly plausible that we did go and "try" for Griezmann for example. He just turned us down instantly of course, as he's at a better club.

I would say Groningen sniffed out Suarez.
He exploded at Ajax but his disciplinary record scared off the big boys.
Thinking about your statement, i'm struggling to think of an unknown talent Wenger has sniffed out since Anelka and Vieira.
I'm happy to be corrected as that doesn't seem right.

Koscielny, unless you are only referring to attacking talent.

Cesc was top class for us. RVP was an immense talent but because of injuries gave us just one good season.

Non attacking you mean? Else i would say Kos and to a certain extent Giroud

Giroud was top scorer in Ligue 1.

Kos was developed by us but i'm happy to give him that.
Giroud was a top scorer in the French League so didn't require sniffing out.
e: Rohit beat me to that.
If we get this guy and he turns out to be good, then he would qualify as nobody has heard of him and nobody else seems interested in him.

Yeah i saw this. He goes on to say that apparently there is an AFC scout who hails from Galicia, same region as Deportivo and perez. He scouted perez over 'winter' and gave this info.

Edit: You have to wonder why we waited...

I'll take anyone who made it to double digits in a decent league last season at this point. Sign him up.

And secondly given Xhaka signed for 25-30m it would mean that we signed Holding, Asana and Kelechi for a combined 20-25m which simply isn't true.

That's not what it says.

The 'pot' of money is effectively 96m.

It doesn't mean we've spent that much so far.

If anything, if we followed Ornstein's maths, it would leave us with approximately 20m which is what we bid for Vardy and now Perez.

The 40m on Mustafi is a bit steep though.

Yup, I thought this too.

40m on Mustafi? Laughable. Romagnoli is the one to spend that sum on.

Yeah. That is why i said 'to a certain extent'. I was implying that he wasn't really Hot property. Still i agree not a unknown.

We waited for some dominoes to roll in all probability, which didn't. I still think we will buy another top class forward if a chance presents itself, regardless of if we buy Perez. Everton might have just forced our hand to complete the deal this week which may have been pushed to next week if not for Everton's seriousness.

With the player having a good season with great stats, with the fee relatively low I'm surprised nobody moved for him earlier on in the window.

You can see the sort of player Wenger has aimed for this summer, with the heavy links to Mahrez and Vary's clause being triggerd and now Lucas Perez it's safe to say Wenger wanted to add an attacking wide player, who can play as a striker and can score from either position.

With Ozil not being a goal threat and Giroud being limited, it's important for us to have other players scoring and allowing Ramsey to roam up and down at will isn't the safest way to play, so Sanchez on one wing and Perez on the other has the potential to do wonders.

Perez---Giroud---Sanchez
----------Ozil--------

The #madness never really did fit the pattern. £30m bid for Lacazette, very nearly signed Vardy for 20m, and now signing this guy for 17m, seems like a very clear budget for a forward and I don't see how a massive bid for a striker in between that really fits especially with a supposed 100m budget.

Because he's not our first (or arguably even second choice).

Also because we tried for Vardy and Lacazette first.
