What an awful piece of business Tomiyasu has turned out to be. How did he pass the medical? Did we not do one, was it not thorough enough or was it just plain ignored? How long left on his contract given it's not possible to sell him? Not even end of the season but end of the year, so effectively the bulk of next season too.

invisibleman18 every team has these guys. If it is tendonosis, it would be very hard to pick up and differentiate from tendonitis in medical. The former is degenerative but appears similar at first. Generally we have decent availability across the squad, so this isn’t alarming

It's not alarming that he's out at this point given he's essentially been replaced in the squad and there has been no expectation on his availability. But it's concerning that he's basically been crocked since he arrived having apparently passed the medical process. The money would have been better invested in someone more robust.

lol. Everyone’s a critic in clear 20/20 hindsight these days…

Hope he gets better. I also hope he chooses to retire. But you know, he could be one of those bushido types. Never give up and all that. Which would be tragic.

Panda Tomiyasu out until the end of the year. So that's both him and Jesus being non-entities well into next season.

Neither should be considered serious members of the squad next season. They can be like Tierney this season and Cedric last, just expensive emergency cover.

I've said it before elsewhere, but I've read that he's got a similar injury to something I've been dealing with for over three years now and if that's the case, he has endless amounts of sympathy from me because the amount of false starts I've had and the amount of effort I've had to put in to getting back to football (back tonight as it happens) has been incredibly frustrating.

I don't think you can blame the club for not picking up a knee injury that hadn't happened yet.

To be fair to our due diligence on signings, I don't think a medical check can predict chronic repetitive strain issues such as tendonitis in advance so easily. Vermaelen comes to mind.

I am worried how Calafiori has been going, fingers crossed he can have an injury free remainder of this season as he's got more to show us.

flobaba made it through the game, nearly broke my wrist when I fell on my arse at Vauxhall station for no reason whatsoever though. 🤣

          Thanks Flobs. 👍

Doppler ultrasonography and shear-wave elastography can be used to not only diagnose but quite accurately predict onset of tendinopathy even if the athlete is asymptomatic. The cost of the tech isn't horrific but football clubs in England, AFAIK, usually don't use it until the poor footballer becomes symptomatic. I'm not even sure if clubs are using it as part of a pre-transfer medical.

Tomiyasu's injury could potentially have been caught/predicted earlier, but what do you do as a club? His playing style might mean he's just much more susceptible compared to others and only playing him once a month is pointless.

Whoa. I sit corrected. If this is true, we should be using it on our current squad, let alone signings. Wearing players out fucks us for season after season.

Burnwinter we stayed healthy last season. We went all way from January with no new issues. Liverpool have been riding their luck all year. We probably just need a bigger squads to deal with the s ch dulling the last few seasons.

First starting with the Qatar World Cup, and then the increasing requirements of pre-season, and an expanding champions league - the players never stop playing. Just look at charts for young stars. By 21, they are hitting the type of playing time guys like Beckham were hitting at 25.

Did Nwaneri pull a quad? Hopefully just cramps, but looked bad.

Martinelli being in that list can fuck right off.

Claudius doesn’t mean much as this is the worst Brazilian side of last 30 years. The fact that Richadlison was the poster boy of their last WC campaign says it all.

Anyway, i don’t care about Brazil but if he’s selected it means he’s gong to return soon from injury which is good news for us.

Think Arteta said he should be back a little bit before Saka, so i would assume in a couple weeks he will be training with the team again.

We somehow get past PSV and have Mart and Saka returning then we go all in on the CL. Madrid or no Madrid. Semi’s would be Liverpool and we can beat them over two legs.

Next two CL games are huge for Arteta. He can still save the season.

If Premier League clubs are hiring chiropractors, it suddenly makes sense to me why they can't get a grip of injuries.

Dom they can cure autism don't you know!

Sicario2 - Tier 1 I really don't expect to see Saka at his pre injury level this season. I'm still a little worried about how much the injury might have taken from him. Hopefully negligible but you never know. But I think it's unlikely Saka is going to come back and be making a big difference for at least 4-6 weeks after such an injury.

Well, no real surprise there. They said beginning of april, is later March really that different? Will be nice to get him back though

                        Can't wait!

He may not be at his best when he returns, but it will be a boost to the team no matter what.

Even Saka's injury wasn't enough to change this pattern.

Calafiori went down on international duty. Needs a scan.
