I hope Martinelli comes back with a renewed sense of purpose. I’d love him to rediscover his form of a season or two ago.

I seen that clip of Odegaards pass for his goal against Brighton, where Saka was right up alongside him waiting on the pass. Martinelli scored but there was something about them being side by side in that moment. Martinelli might not be Arsenal through and through like Saka, Smith-Rowe, or the new boys, but I love watching him and his chaos.

Tam he was actually in good form when the injury hit. He'd stepped it up when Saka got hurt. Very unlucky with the injury timing.

Claudius his crossing on either foot has been his best asset this season, but that's a bit basic in my opinion. He's still way too easy to read and struggles to beat his man.

He is still only 23. I have my frustrations with him, but he's got plenty of time to develop further - and as others have said, there were positive signs prior to this injury.

He's been pretty good lately, but nothing to suggest he'll ever be world class (like how it used to look when we compared him to Saka in 22/23 and before). Is there anything extraordinary left of him like when Nwaneri steps out on the field? If he's going to start for us for years going forward, I hope the answer is something else than "his workrate".

QuincyAbeyie the term world class suggests that this is a limited pool of people. i don't expect a lot of our players to be world class, just consistent top 3-4 quality. and there is typically already a big gap in quality between these players and the guys who end up at Europa League / Europa Conference League quality.

Claudius I happen to think that Raya, Gabriel, Saliba, Ødegaard, Rice and Saka are all among the world's best in their positions while MLS, Timber, Nwaneri have the potential to become just that some day. I've always known Martinelli isn't in the former category, but to me it's starting to look like he's not in the second one either.

Tomiyasu out until the end of the year. So that's both him and Jesus being non-entities well into next season.

We definitely should not be selling Kiwior this summer. Only Italian clubs are interested and they won't offer us anything close to making it worth our while.

Neither should be considered serious members of the squad next season. They can be like Tierney this season and Cedric last, just expensive emergency cover.

What an awful piece of business Tomiyasu has turned out to be. How did he pass the medical? Did we not do one, was it not thorough enough or was it just plain ignored? How long left on his contract given it's not possible to sell him? Not even end of the season but end of the year, so effectively the bulk of next season too.

invisibleman18 every team has these guys. If it is tendonosis, it would be very hard to pick up and differentiate from tendonitis in medical. The former is degenerative but appears similar at first. Generally we have decent availability across the squad, so this isn’t alarming

It's not alarming that he's out at this point given he's essentially been replaced in the squad and there has been no expectation on his availability. But it's concerning that he's basically been crocked since he arrived having apparently passed the medical process. The money would have been better invested in someone more robust.

I've said it before elsewhere, but I've read that he's got a similar injury to something I've been dealing with for over three years now and if that's the case, he has endless amounts of sympathy from me because the amount of false starts I've had and the amount of effort I've had to put in to getting back to football (back tonight as it happens) has been incredibly frustrating.

I don't think you can blame the club for not picking up a knee injury that hadn't happened yet.

To be fair to our due diligence on signings, I don't think a medical check can predict chronic repetitive strain issues such as tendonitis in advance so easily. Vermaelen comes to mind.

I am worried how Calafiori has been going, fingers crossed he can have an injury free remainder of this season as he's got more to show us.

Doppler ultrasonography and shear-wave elastography can be used to not only diagnose but quite accurately predict onset of tendinopathy even if the athlete is asymptomatic. The cost of the tech isn't horrific but football clubs in England, AFAIK, usually don't use it until the poor footballer becomes symptomatic. I'm not even sure if clubs are using it as part of a pre-transfer medical.

Tomiyasu's injury could potentially have been caught/predicted earlier, but what do you do as a club? His playing style might mean he's just much more susceptible compared to others and only playing him once a month is pointless.
