Dom Doppler ultrasonography and shear-wave elastography can be used to not only diagnose but quite accurately predict onset of tendinopathy even if the athlete is asymptomatic. The cost of the tech isn't horrific but football clubs in England, AFAIK, usually don't use it until the poor footballer becomes symptomatic. I'm not even sure if clubs are using it as part of a pre-transfer medical.
