Can't believe there isn't a thread about this. Unbelievably stupid comments from the two of them and come across wholly ignorant. There wasn't even a humorous tone to their discussion, they really believed what they were saying.

Not a massive fan of Gray but even less of a fan of Keys; hope he gets sacked.

Haven't really read or listened to any of this, am I right in thinking they took the mickey out of a female lines-person, when they thought the mic was off? Is that the extent of it?

Yeah, that's about the size of it Ricky. Quite embarrassing really as she made an accurate call on a contentious incident.

I actually think it's ridiculous that Gray and Keyes got suspended for something that was said in private, off air, never meant to be broadcast.

It would be akin to being overheard having a conversation in the work place and being suspended because whoever overheard it was offended by the content of the conversation even though it was not meant for their ears.

Ridiculous situation, the decision was made to appease those whose default setting is taking offence.

All that said Gray and Keyes are cretins but we knew that anyway after the comments they made about Walcott.

Yeah, pissed me off with the Walcott comments. Keys is a tit.

Whether it's off-air or not, they were said during a public broadcast as public representatives, as it were, of a sport that has endeavoured to battle numerous prejudices.

As with any profession, you are representing your employers at all times in public commitments. Whilst I don't agree that Sky should appease the masses, I think this was the right decision.

I do however agree with a lot of what Dominic Raab said today, although that discussion was somewhat tangential to this discussion.

If they were public representatives I'd agree Don but they're not.

They do not represent anyone other than their employer and what was said was not said in an official public capacity in a broadcast situation.
As far as I know they weren't even miked up.

I don't agree with what they said, I think it showed yet again how witness and dim they are but ultimately I don't take either of them or their opinions seriously and that goes for their match commentary and analysis too :hmm:

I can see why Sky suspended them, they can't be seen to condone that type of thinking, it's a clear cut business decision and to put those two on air tonight would have been bad for business.....
A damage limitation PR exercise.

They should have allowed them on air and asked the female official to join the commentary team.
She could have put them in their place herself 🙂

meh, we say far worse at our tolly meet ups, sometimes jimbo takes things too far, but we all giggle anyways doesnt we

They were miked up but off-air. Is that really any better? There is a code of conduct in all jobs not to be present prejudiced opinions and when that female linesman was obviously going to be a talking point, how can they validate their opinions given their indiscretions?

I vote suspension! 😆

What did they say about Walcott?

Well that crap is from the 1970's Y va, and just like that other 1970's figure big Ron Atkinson when he called Marcel Desailly 'a lazy fking n*er' (in a jovial way as Ron was one of the first managers to give black players a start) they have to go.
We all know women don't understand the offside rule but the biggest laugh is the lineswoman actually did a very good job not like that stupid tit in our game that got at least 4 calls blatantly wrong.

Oh dear.....I'd hate to hear what he'd say about Diaby.

Hey! stop changing your name Chris it's hard for me to keep up.

🙂

You know that the odd few women have managed to get their[/align] heads 'round the offside rule.

1970's........
😐:hmm:8)

Keys sister went on radio and said he has 3 sisters and a daughter and is very respectful of women. He buys them ironing boards and everything.

To be fair, I've made my fair share of sexist jokes, I actually did give one of my ex-girlfriends one of those mini vacuum cleaners for her birthday as a joke (she dumped me). What makes this bad is it doesn't sound like they're joking and they actually believe in their stone age idiologies.

Biggy, me avvy won't change!

Hard to keep up or keep it up?

Rtc did warn me that it tends to prefer to stay off duty once you've past 30

What were the details?

Were you regretful after being dumped.

I like to explain it this way Y va......😉

Say you're in a crowded shop (pitch)
And you want to get these beautiful pair of shoes (ball)
To the register (goal)
But the queue in front of it is too full of other shoppers (defenders)
Theres no way through! but suddenly you spot your best friend (team mate) near the front.

Now the law simply states that Your friend must be at least level with at least two other shoppers when you launch the shoes for her to catch and pay for at the register.

There's a woman who works with me whose husband gave her one of those weed killer contraptions that you strap on your back for her birthday.
She thought it was a joke too but it wasn't, that was all he gave her.
She told us about a month ago (big mistake) and we're still laughing at her.

Biggus
What about if you've got another friend who's browsing about just ahead of the last 2 shoppers but who's not actually looking in your direction and is not available to catch the shoes?
Is she interfering?
🙂

What wife wouldn't want a weed killer contraption 😃

I wasn't really, thought if she couldn't take a joke then it was no real loss. Though looking back, I probably should have got her a real girf too 😃

That really ticks me off. Not being great technically does not equal being stupid.

It's funny how Walcott has managed to grab a starting spot at Arsenal despite being so dumb while those two Einsteins has managed to get suspended from Sky Sports for not realising how to turn their microphones off. 🙂

I'm not one for political correctness at all, I think alot of it is completely ridiculous, but I really do feel for the lineswoman here.

I wouldn't say it's bang out of order to say some of what they said, because, frankly, that's just how blokes talk most of the time, especially when Gray and whoever that other moron is were pitch side and were basically calling her a minger. Horrible to hear, sure, but that's blokes for you, and there are very few blokes out there who could criticise that behaviour from a position of never having done it themselves - I know I can't. But to broadcast it and then subsequently reproduce it everywhere in the news, is irresponsible and not on, and is not fair on the poor lady who's worked bloody hard to get to where she has. What chance does she have now of forging a top level career for herself? She'll forever be that lineswoman who Andy Gray thinks is ugly (and incompetent!).

Sky as an organisation should get on bended knee and apologise to her.

Meh, refs have been shit for years, male or female; it makes no difference. If she passes the fitness criteria then it's fine because some of the assistant refs do struggle to get up and down the line quick enough.

The biggest irony is that it is Gray, Keys and other assorted pundits, ex-players etc. that don't know the rules half of the time.

No sympathy for either of them. I can't see myself saying the same things or being such a fucking idiot to be honest.

To the extent that I'm a sexist pig I still wouldn't claim a professional lineswoman didn't know the offside rule. There's little more loathsome in this world than the veteran sports commentator, so many of them are aggressive, self-serving know-nothings with Emeritus disease, whether it's Andy Gray or Geoff Boycott they're not shining emblems of humanity.

So what's the verdict on this lino chick then?

Don't fink I would ya know, maybe with ricky 1986's but not my very own

😆 True enough.....

Malcolm Sex wrote:

Well she's not my cup of tea, a bit skinny needs more curves, but as I said the lass done alright, at least she understands the rules not like that dumb robot in our game who raised his flag every time we crossed the half way line.

Yup she needs a bloomin good square meal

oh yeah, that ref in sat was ridics

Remarkably few would choose Andy Gray over her as either lover or linesperson, you'd have to think.

Women don't understand the offside rule. Fact!

I'm not a fan of female officials in an all-male game, but when you decide to give one of them stick it would be good idea to wait till she has done something wrong first. She made the correct decision.

Just been announced, Andy Gray has been sacked. Apparently he was already on a warning for something that happened off-air in December. No news on Richard Keys yet, but the fact that he rang and personally apologised to the lineswoman, means he'll probably be kept on - and he wasn't involved in the December issue either.

That's a great lesson in how to piss £2m a year up the wall. What an idiot.

If he was on a warning before then fair play.

But as a sports pundit and commentator I quite liked Andy Gray. Preferred him to anyone else.

ridiculous. gray and keys said nothing wrong.

Isn't Gray currently suing News International?
Owned by Murdoch....

One possible reason for the release of the poor quality audio that stitched him up?
The excuse Sky were looking for to sack him?

Conspiracy?!

He should look into suing them for unfair dismissal.

women, with very few exceptions, don't understand football.
