All of Suarez's negative behavioural issues aside - because I don't really care about them all that much - I can't believe that we're finally gonna go big on a player, REALLY big if reports are right, and we can't get a better player than Suarez.

Maybe I'm not moving with the times, but for £40m I want something superhuman.

I agree with this but i also think that his behavioural issues are going to screw us eventually.

I'd rather pay Madrid £30m for Higuain. I don't even like Suarez the football player, all racism/diving/punching/elbowing/nasty-tackling aside. He is a greedy footballer with poor vision and dodgy decision making.

What sort of shit clause is that? 😆

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense.

His agent is as clueless as we are.

It's the most pointless thing ever. It's like one of those things from a film..

Guy A "but you said you'd consider it!"

Guy B "I did, and I'm still saying no" smug

Guy A "you bastard!"

The clause doesn't make sense whatsoever. If it's true that Liverpool don't have to sell then that's the mostly pointless clause ever.

Liverpool is just waiting for more interested parties to force a bidding war. If Suarez does a rvp they wont have a choice

You mean train as normal and play when asked to?

Cannot believe that is what they thought they had signed.
Obviously did not bother to read the small print.
None of us can be as dumb as that.

If we are willing to spend that kind of money I'd rather we went for Rooney. Smaller fee in all likelihood as well.

Really, Ricky? I'm a bit surprised. Is it that you don't care so much as in "stuff happens all the time, and a bit of a hinderance this way or the other won't kill us", or, you really, genuinely don't mind the person? You don't have a problem with having a guy on the team that you just know is a sleaze?

I know there's a problem, and a big temptation here - in one swift move we rid ourselves of that long, heavy burden of lack of ambition, not taken at all seriously, a team of the past - and - boom! we're right back in there, everybody will talk about Arsenal as contenders (though I'm sure many will still say it's not enough). And the small time spending, never go for a big player - at once thing of the past. I myself am thinking: he - or no one? what's worse? and they both look horrid to me.

But I just can't get myself to thinking of supporting the team and at the same time hating one of them. And I can't do this trick of "he's now one of ours, who cares about his past cannibalistic habits?" The idea of him coming here still make my stomach turn.

Also we all know they won't make the same mistake again and will insert a proper get out clause just incase RM come calling next summer!
Rooney has other issues but is not as mercenerial as the racist.

it's possible suarez isn't putting pressure on liverpool to sell to arsenal, because he's not completely convinced about coming to us, which allows pool to knock back all of our offers without flinching. gut feeling is he will bide his time to see if any 'bigger' clubs come in for him. as clarence said, unless he "does an rvp" and says he wants to come here, things will drag out.

edit: grauniad reporting the 40m + 1 bid

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jul/23/arsenal-luis-suarez-liverpool-transfer

😆 at the 1 pound. wummery from gazidis and wenger

40 frikkin mil offer (+1 squid), never thought I'd see that day when we spend more than 20mil and here we are bidding twice that amount for a real scummy, albeit talented footballer.

Wow. Forty fucking million. If we're willing to part with that sort of cash, we can afford almost any of the top players. I understand why we are willing to part with this much money for Suarez. He's genuinely next level to Rooney and the other names we've been linked with. But at the same time, nobody's going to be happy if we don't end up spending all of that potential £40m at some point in the window. Whether its on one player or two, we can't wait for much longer. Season kicks off in less than a month.

Speculating, but it sounds like the clause may be a release clause, but that Liverpool don't have to negotiate with us until Suarez makes the signal that he wants the fun to begin? If so he's got the cards for now.

Me too, surprised and really disappointed Ricky I never expected to hear such a catastrophic failure of moral fibre from you, I could pull out some quotes from the Suarez banned thread that would make you wince but what's the point?

@ Yuvy, I can teach you to hate if you want, I despised both Gallas and Silvestre and hoped they broke a leg every time they defiled our shirt and it'll be the same with this asshole- But again it all comes back to Wenger, they should never have been at our club.

😆 You couldn't make that up. If there is any manager in the world who would increased bids in £1 increments it is Wenger. Absolutely no doubt he'll consider bidding £40,000,002 next.

That video Dules posted has convinced me that he needs to be at Arsenal.

Not because of the cracking goals, but because of that cracking mullet he had when at Ajax. If he can regain that kind of form here, combined with those charming, full-of-character choppers he has, the Arsenal can finally be taken seriously again in the hair stakes.

I know it's a big moral dilemma for us fans, but having a mullet in the team could strike fear into opponents' hearts and give us a psychological advantage before a ball is even kicked. Sign him up! (obviously with a hairstyle clause in the contract).
