Would Mourinho guarantee the CL? He's won it once in the last 9 years with squads far better than United's.

Moyes is a good manager who has done an excellent job at Everton. How he'd do at Man U with better players, added pressure, CL and be expected to win? No idea.

Everton will be fucked without him.

He wouldn't guarantee them anything.

Next season for United is going to be really strange. They could just keep going on momentum or they could completely implode. There are a lot of players there who've only really worked with Fergie and plenty of players who's personalities Fergie was able to keep in check. Some players who've looked good will suddenly look shit.

It is rare though that top clubs implode because they change the manager. Man U has a top squad and they'll do well regardless.

Well, Mourinho's won it twice in his career. Only one manager boasts a better record. Ever.

Also before he landed up at Madrid, they struggled to get out of the round of 16. He's definitely made them a better team in Europe, particularly given the weaknesses of the current United team.

You just wonder how it will affect their summer recruitment plans and also, when you look at their squad, there is a bit of work to be done in phasing out the older players and bringing through the youngsters.

They don't have £100M to throw at Mourinho and probably don't like his profile. Have heard it said many times that alot of people in football won't go near Jose, despite his achievements.

I don't Mourinho would compete with the current United squad without some serious midfield additions.

Irrelevant anyway, its Moyes who is the new United manager.

GM - I know, but my point is while his record is admirable, it's far from a guarantee of CL success, appointing him wouldn't even make it likely that he'll get them another CL trophy.

It's rare that a club replaces a manager as influential as Ferguson. For 20 years they've been one of the top teams in this league. It's an extraordinary run...

And even if they ride out the next couple of seasons, they'll have to re-build and carry on keeping it fresh. While contending with City and Chelsea [and maybe, long term, us and Liverpool]

With some luck they'll appoint Gary Neville soon and he'll do a Souness on Man Utd.

Confirmed where?

Confirmed by the same source who broke the Fergie retiring news. Some United insider.

Not Baines and Fellaini...

Obviously making that post in jest 😆 But hopefully it happens.

Anyway, I was serious bout Baines though. I read about his illness, something like Jesus Navas.

Ferguson won them the title this season, Moyes is nowhere near Ferguson, and the 26 years of stability and experience he had. They'll struggle to finish top 4 especially if rooney leaves and Moyes takes over. Not to mention the change after so long.

Moving from Liverpool to Manchester is hardly a massive change, pathetic if true.

ON THIS ARSENAL DAY 2002 Arsenal win 1-0 at Old Trafford to seal the PL title thanks to Sylvain Wiltord's goal. Happy Anniversary Fergie.

🙂

He can drive to Manchester every day in under an hour. It takes less time than getting from one side of london to the other. 😆

I think a quote was taken and blown wildly out of proportion.

good time for him to go. with wenger getting all this money he's going to build a super squad and he was going to rub it in fungies face next season. i kid i kid.

goes out on top though, good on the ole drunk.

Not sure if Moyes can do what he does at a big club. He's good at finding value for money, but he has no experience with attaining CL-level quality.

Twitter went a bit mental last night with all this so definitely seemed like something was happening. He has always talked staying as long as his health held up but with him needing a hip operation it would of been too much at his age. He has earned his retirement! Really weird for me as well, since I started watching football he has been their manager so going to be really weird seeing someone else take charge

Credit to the guy though, what has achieved and the way he has built that club up is something which we will possibly never see again. A lot of other managers have tried to topple him but everyone has failed, I reckon he might of gone last season had Man City not won the league but with his character he wasn't going to leave on a low note or talk of his empire crumbling! Can't say I liked the guy but always had a lot of respect for what he has achieved.

I certainly hope so, got him at 11/8 this morning. 8)

Have nothing good to say about the guy. Good fucking riddance. I just hope this is final so I never have to hear his stupid slurred Scottish accent again....or see the old cheat point at his watch in injury time and then watch the ref bend over and give him whatever he wants.

Good. Fucking. Riddance.

^^ What Ricky said. Fuck the old prick, I've hated him for decades.

Funnily enough I don't hate Fergie at all now he's gone.
Moyes will have to fill that vacuum.
I reckon he'll be well equipped for that.

Fuck me, ferguson's face really is a deep shade of red. 😆

In both pics too. You can see it even when he's out of focus. 😆

One area where United will fall down is scrutiny, Ferguson controlled the media with an iron grip and they were terrified of him, I don't think Moyes inspires the same fear and if he doesn't win something soon they'll tear him to shreads.

Q.F.T.
Never liked the guy. Never will.
Do not have any respect for him despite all his achievements.

Those hating for a massive opportunity will be disappointed. Football's all about money and Moyes will have an even bigger budget than Ferguson.

As for Ferguson: a winner but highly unlikable. Good riddance.

Finally, where can I put down a bet for Everton to be relegated within 2 seasons?

Great day. As much as we hate him, he's a fantastic coach. This cannot be good for united. And for all of city-chelsea money, it's united who ruled the league.

Moyes? OK. Good thing it's not Mourinho. Let him go to the wacko house, till next time he loses it with Abramovich.
