In conclusion, I think Moyes will continue to dominate the league with United but it'll be a while before they win the CL again. By contrast Mourinho will be another hit-it-and-quit-it appointment, clearly United are looking long term if they appoint Moyes.

Would Mourinho guarantee the CL? He's won it once in the last 9 years with squads far better than United's.

Moyes is a good manager who has done an excellent job at Everton. How he'd do at Man U with better players, added pressure, CL and be expected to win? No idea.

Everton will be fucked without him.

He wouldn't guarantee them anything.

Next season for United is going to be really strange. They could just keep going on momentum or they could completely implode. There are a lot of players there who've only really worked with Fergie and plenty of players who's personalities Fergie was able to keep in check. Some players who've looked good will suddenly look shit.

It is rare though that top clubs implode because they change the manager. Man U has a top squad and they'll do well regardless.

Well, Mourinho's won it twice in his career. Only one manager boasts a better record. Ever.

Also before he landed up at Madrid, they struggled to get out of the round of 16. He's definitely made them a better team in Europe, particularly given the weaknesses of the current United team.

You just wonder how it will affect their summer recruitment plans and also, when you look at their squad, there is a bit of work to be done in phasing out the older players and bringing through the youngsters.

They don't have £100M to throw at Mourinho and probably don't like his profile. Have heard it said many times that alot of people in football won't go near Jose, despite his achievements.

I don't Mourinho would compete with the current United squad without some serious midfield additions.

Irrelevant anyway, its Moyes who is the new United manager.

GM - I know, but my point is while his record is admirable, it's far from a guarantee of CL success, appointing him wouldn't even make it likely that he'll get them another CL trophy.

It's rare that a club replaces a manager as influential as Ferguson. For 20 years they've been one of the top teams in this league. It's an extraordinary run...

And even if they ride out the next couple of seasons, they'll have to re-build and carry on keeping it fresh. While contending with City and Chelsea [and maybe, long term, us and Liverpool]

With some luck they'll appoint Gary Neville soon and he'll do a Souness on Man Utd.

Confirmed where?

Confirmed by the same source who broke the Fergie retiring news. Some United insider.

Not Baines and Fellaini...

Obviously making that post in jest 😆 But hopefully it happens.

Anyway, I was serious bout Baines though. I read about his illness, something like Jesus Navas.

Ferguson won them the title this season, Moyes is nowhere near Ferguson, and the 26 years of stability and experience he had. They'll struggle to finish top 4 especially if rooney leaves and Moyes takes over. Not to mention the change after so long.

Moving from Liverpool to Manchester is hardly a massive change, pathetic if true.

ON THIS ARSENAL DAY 2002 Arsenal win 1-0 at Old Trafford to seal the PL title thanks to Sylvain Wiltord's goal. Happy Anniversary Fergie.

🙂

He can drive to Manchester every day in under an hour. It takes less time than getting from one side of london to the other. 😆
