Or maybe they just feel he is the best man for the job.
Ferguson moves upstairs...

Maybe. But I doubt it. The only thing I think Moyes offers over the others is a commitment to stay for many years. But then again if he's not brilliant, the fans are going to be on his case from the first defeat. Another Rafa situation.
Moyes is hardly a bad manager. He's done very well with Everton on a consistent basis.
I'm willing to bet that they got their first choice. We'll never know, but I would take that bet 10 times out of 10.
Moyes would be a poor appointment imo. They could more-or-less get any manager they want but they're going for the guy who has never won a major trophy before.
Personally, if it is Moyes, I think it's a good appointment but we can only wait and see.
Always wanted to see how Moyes would do at a bigger club. Shame it has to be man u.
Surprised he's staying on at board level.
Moyes will be a good appointment I think.
So, no acknowledgments for the best manager of all time ?

Eerm... No? He's not dead, he's taking a cushty board job.
I think moyes is a good manager and would suit them well
He'll be given time that a high profile name like Mourinho wouldn't be given.
It will be all about how he deals with the pressure. It's a big enough job, but to be following in a club legends footsteps is something else.
Stylistically and philosphically, he is a good match for them and they shouldn't really skip a beat.
Thinking about it, wouldn't surprise me if he was Fergie's choice (whether he is appointed or not).
Any possibility of one of his former players taking the reigns? Neville or Ole. Someone like that possibly?
Moyes would be ideal though. He'd probably take Fellaini to OT and impose a horribly dull style of football.
Whoever it is though, they'll be a bedding in period. A chance for City/Chelsea to storm ahead and assert their dominance. They next two or three years will go a long way in shaping much of the future. If United continue winning then not much will change but if City/Chelsea can win two or three in quick succession the pendulum would have well and truly shifted.
Everton are not dull in the slightest. They play with a very high tempo and their games against other top sides are always great.

True, but still. I quite wanted him to stick around for a couple of years - at least one, because the optimist in me wanted Wenger to come out on top once again.
Now even if we manage to become a top team again, it'll always be said by United fans that we couldn't have if Ferguson was around..
The betting markets on managerial appointments are almost never right.
Depends what you're following.

Who cares what they say if we're winning titles....
Delighted he's gone.
Some of these 'tributes' are garbage. Van Horseface just using the opportunity to remind everyone of his goalscoring record.
My God. Another one without a scrap of dignity or self-awareness. :hmm:
The boys from Surrey don't seem to want Moyes. I don't think many of us did either when the subject came up, but now that a more attractive club might be after him we start thinking that he's potentially great. At least that's how I've been influenced. Can see him fitting in very well. But I think if they want to be competitive in Europe they have to play a different way and change many players.

He isn't an "exciting" appointment, but I wouldn't have been against it.
I think he'd be a solid, shrewd choice.
Mourinho would be my first choice if I was a United fan though, ahead of Klopp.
I can see a continental manager doing very well at United, given the structure and stability they have in place at that club. Someone like Mourinho wouldn't be ideal for us, he would do even better than he is at Chelsea with such a good squad.
I would love them to appoint someone without experience in top games, like Moyes. Any UK manager would be ideal for us, because there isn't any quality ones out there. All their ex players are piss poor managers as well, best would be Solsjkaer for them.
Anyway, reliable united sources says that the new manager would be unveil in a matter of days, but firstly he must quit his his current club contract. David Gill also confirmed the new manager "will have experience in both England and European competitions" and is in favour of giving youth players chances. Tony Pulis did quite well in Europa league...
I'm surprised everyone in that thread has forgotten that Everton got into the Champions League one season under Moyesβeven though they went out to Villareal in qualifying. Certainly doubt Gill's comments were meant to rule Moyes out.
Wonder if now that Fergie has made his announcement they're going to wait to see which managers' agents approach them before making a decision.

All trying to pretend they're crying more than each other online β¦ oh dear.

Everyone knows the extent of fan support is measured by the volume of tears. That's why everyone knows Wilshere is Arsenal's biggest fan.
It's just getting a bit @RAWK_Meltdown in there right now. Steaming right up. What was it that mad fan said about Benitez that Klaus likes to quote?

That's fantastic.
Left out the bit where Ferguson kicked him out because he didn't get on with Ronaldo.
Incidentally, has Rooney made peace with Moyes?
The Times reckon it's Moyes and to be announced in the next 24 hours.
Moyes will be appointed United manager by the end of this week, says reliable United source and tweets Sam Wallace.
That will be great for us.

Forgot about that, will be interesting.
Moyes wants to bring some Everton players to United I reckon. Anichebe, Heitinga, Gibson etc. No chance on Baines with him suffering that home sickness issue.
Moyes is a weird one, I wouldn't want him at Arsenal because he's not got that knack of winning trophies against the odds and I believe he's never won away from home against a big team. So I'm not sure he's the right man to end our trophyless run.
However, he's fantastic in the league. He gets the best out of his players, finds relative bargains and is generally pretty consistent season after season. Sometimes the football is dull but he's going to be working with better players now.
In conclusion, I think Moyes will continue to dominate the league with United but it'll be a while before they win the CL again. By contrast Mourinho will be another hit-it-and-quit-it appointment, clearly United are looking long term if they appoint Moyes.
Moyes makes sense if Fergie is going to have plenty of input.
He'd want to bring Anichebe and Gibson?!
and Heitinga.
Not Baines and Fellaini...
