a month later

Apparently Spurs are in for him. Only have the dailyfail as a source, mind.

Supposedly unhappy at his lack of games, what did he really expect when he went there? He has two defensive midfielders who are better than him and two CBs better than him, one of those DMs can also cover better than him at CB!

Glad we got rid as his indiscipline in midfield used to annoy the fuck out of me but was annoyed we didn't go and use that money to replace him. Were rumours we might take him back and glad Wenger shot those down. If there is any player we should try to bring back it is Cesc, rest I care little about. With Cesc I think it is more a case he doesn't suit their style of play and despite that has managed almost 30 goals and 30+ assists in his two years there.

Yeah, Song was blundering buffoon at times, and used to irritate me too. Glad we got rid of him as such, but at the same time not because we didn't spend.

Song in our current team would have improved us a whole lot.

I think Ramsey works better with Arteta, and I was always a fan of Alex.

It's hard to know what his role was in midfield and as a result we didn't have a functioning midfield.

Always like Song but we don't need him. Don't want him at Spurs though.

This guy is as bad as RvP for me.

At least RvP left for first team football.

Alex Song is a fucking whore and I would never welcome him back at my club.

He's no where near as bad as RVP.

RvP is 29 and only had so much left for trophies.

Alex Song is 24, 25?

Most pointless transfer ever for all parties involved.

15 mill for him is good

It's been a terrible move for him but, with perspective, it was worth the risk at the time. Most players have an inflated sense self worth anyway and the worst thing that will happen is that he spent 12 months training with better players, getting paid good money and, when he does leave, he won't have much trouble finding a club because he's already got a few good seasons under his belt.

Even putting footballers egos aside, you've got to look at their level of ambition. It's a step up for him, playing with better players in a more successful club. You can't begrudge a man looking to better himself and test himself at a higher level. I suspect money isn't as high a consideration at the very top levels of the game as it is sometimes made out to be.

Of course not. What did Song do exactly? He raised the issue of a new contract and was pretty much told to fuck off, then he fell out with bold and was sold to Barca. What was Song supposed to do, beg to stay and never ask about contracts?

The likes of RVP and Cesc forced their way out and fucked us over. Far worse.

what did rvp do? he wasnt going to sign a new contract with us, which is entirely his right, so we sold him. there are only so many possible destinations for elite players like him, and we chose to sell to united. all parties got what they wanted.

if a player is a cunt for not wanting to waste away his career here, winning nothing, and earning less than he would practically anywhere else, then every player worth a damn is a cunt.

thierry henry left for the exact same reasons as van persie, at the same age, to an equally cuntish club.

Rubbish Kami, the situations with Henry and Rvp is entirely different.

both left because they were about to pass their prime and it was obvious we were not going to win anything. they wanted domestic and more importantly, european glory at a traditional powerhouse to cement their world standing. they got paid a lot more, too.

van persie should be celebrated for calling out the club's management on their bullshit, not shunned as a pariah. he is one of us. if we feel dicked over by gazidis, kroenke and wenger, imagine being in van persie's shoes.

Going to Barcelona and going to Manchester United are not the same thing. One's a domestic rival that van Persie (of all players) would be aware of. The other club barely has anything to do with us, even if they're run by cunts.

The vast majority of fans would be fine if van Persie pissed off to Barcelona. Not because they're the lesser of the two evils, I'm sure for Espanyol fans Barcelona are the scum of the earth, but at least they're not on MOTD every weekend.

And Henry didn't jump ship at the first chance.

Song left because we didn't want him. He wanted a contract extension. It was a good move for him anyway, he will get a good education at Barcelona both on a tactical and technical level. He'll be better off after this experience.

btw he had a brilliant game against Levante over the weekend.

Van Persie and Henry the exact same?

That's a stretch for me. For one thing Henry gave us his peak years and he was probably the greatest player ever to grace our league.

Van Persie gave us patchy, injury-ridden season after season, had one decent year then fucked off to our most hated rivals.

Of course, we gave Henry the chance to win trophies and be surrounded by other footballing geniuses. We gave Van Persie a box view of an endless cavalcade of departing stars.

Either way, saying they're exactly the same is like saying a million bucks is the same as a gold watch.

so if you miss a season, then you have to give us another year for free? is it van persie's fault he got injured? van persie left at age 29, and probably gave us his best season. he fulfilled his contractual obligations (and then some - he was unquestionably our best captain since vieira) until that contract was terminated.

i'm making an apples to apples comparison, and you seem to be arguing that the apples aren't identical. ok, fine. say what you will, but their motivations were the same.

If the only requirement is winning us a few matches to get to top four and fulfilling contractual obligations, then isn't Arshavin another "apple"? How about Rosicky?

Obviously ambition, and our lack of it, was a factor in Van Persie's departure as it was in Henry's. But there's no comparison between his contribution to Arsenal and that of Henry. Henry left with us owing him, but Van Persie left in our debt. Van Persie was here in the wrong era, he had one good full season and now he's winning the title with United.

Understandable? Maybe. As a reflection on our club? Depressing. Arsenal hero? Not so much - but we'll see how he handles next weekend.

😆 Are you having a laugh Kami? Van Persie spend most of his career here being well paid to lay on his fucking arse..... "unquestionably our best captain since vieira" - What! better than that greasy cunt Fabregas? better than "Puffing" Billy nomates?

Well maybe. 😆

Despite the fact he used his one outstanding season with us as a platform to leave the first time any other club gave him a wink, I don't think too many people would have cared much had Robin fucked off into Europe. Would not have even been that bad if he went to City. But United? I can't understand how anyone can show such a detachment.

The Robin thing is done, boys. He left us and won a trophy. Sure, he's an animal for choosing our rivals, but our vitriol should be aimed at those who saw it fit to sell him to a rival and then not replace him. It's important that they know he still has to be replaced. Maybe Lagos' boycott is one tool to remind them. but we cannot persist as we have

There's plenty of vitriol to go round.

He's not a gooner that's why.

Figo went to Real, Torres to Chelsea, Tevez to City, Campbell to Arsenal etc.

Yeah, sure, there will be a fan boycott of one of the biggest games of the season. I thought the hardcore K-G-W-out mob were supposed to be the pragmatists? That shit is frontier romanticism -- "Just give every gooner a rifle and descend en masse on London Colney, leave none alive!"

Aye, it's better to be inside pissing out than outside pissing in.

I have exhausted mine.

Bring Song back. We should at the very least undo our mistakes. Then we can think about improving our squad

How do you undo the last 6 years?

Biggus wrote:

We can't. We just endeavour to not repeat it.

20 days later

Song produces a metaphorical physical performance of his career progress since joining Barcelona:

Well, if that flight of stairs represents the trip from regular first team football to the bench, there's two more after it in the frame - the second one's probably the Arshavin flight, and the third the Adriano flight. 😃

Song Billong has a league winners medal. That's all that matters, right? Right...?
