First of all, no one would want to go to chelsea because they arent in the champions league and haven't you seen abramovic tightening hiis purse

Chelsea spent almost £150m odd in 2011. You are indeed confused. 😆

 wow you really are dim, im talking about next season if they arent in the cl. And that in 2011/2012 they spent a net roughly 70 million which isnt a patch on recent seasons. Which has left them having to rely on lampard and drogba for goals.

Whats your point?

That Chelsea are richer, far more successful, a more attractive destination for players and that they will keep spending a shitload of money.

spuds have lost out on the cl before and yet they still spend big, this isnt make or break for them as they are always losing

Ask literally any Spurs fan out there and they'll disagree with that statement. Their future as a possible top club is riding on this Champions League final going their way. They've invested huge money in the last few seasons to achieve regular Champions League football. One year out of the competition put them in the red. A second year will see them selling off assets to stop the leakage.

Chelsea have money and they're in the Champions League final. They also won the league two years ago, as opposed to Spurs who last won it before colour TV had been invented and Winston Churchill began his second term.

Well, exactly! Spurs are forever in our shadow being in the CL for a season isn't going to change that. Meanwhile, Chelsea fans and their players are vile individuals and I'd rather drink my own piss than allow them to become European Champions.

ideal world ... chelsea lose, spurs get a tough qualifier and also lose. not only is that 2 extra games, but it's huge heartbreak to start the season.

and chelsea lifting the big cup is no worse than them lifting the premier league trophy or city lifting it. with that said, i can't begrudge chelsea if they did it this season because they aren't very good and you can't exactly say they bought anything this season. their winning mentality dragged them this far. tottnumb are a bunch of bottlers who don't deserve shit.

It's worse seeing Chelsea lift the PL than City because Chelsea are London based.

They will never be a top club as they will never win the cl or pl. The best they can hope for is just competing in the cl and finishing in the top 4. Yes they may have to sell a few assets like modric and van der faart but they will continue to buy a big squad with redknapp there. They will never be big enough to win a major trophy though whether they qualify for the cl or not this season and any fan can see that, but they will spend enough to compete in the top 6 though. The main issue this season and next was the spuds finishing on top of us and as long as that doesnt happen they arent a threat And you may get the odd van der vart but no major player wants to go there. Chelsea on the other hand will be given a lifeline if they win the cl, with more revenue and player pulling power. So under no circumstances do i want chelsea winning the cl.

A tough choice to make but lets be happy to be in this situation rather than hoping Bayern to win if we finished 4th.

But I want us to be the first London club to win it.

So fuck Chelsea.

Something has to give either way, if Spurs are in the CL then they are in, nothing we can do, lets just be happy we finished above them. But like I said at least we can watch this game relaxed, it could have been a lot, lot worse.

The best case scenario would be Chelsea loosing and then Spurs falling at the first hurdle. For that reason I'll be cheering Munich on. Can't stand the prospect of Chelsea winning something as prestigious as the CL but I could live with the prospect of Spurs competing in the competition. They'll be some strong teams in the qualifying pot this time round so it won't be plain sailing for Spurs.

I think Modric is off regardless. They aren't going to pay Adebayor what he will want even if they agree a fee with City and if a big club comes in for Bale I don't see the chimp turning it down. This was their chance to finish above us and they blew it. Next season we'll finish comfortably ahead of them with or without CL football.

Being in the Champions league isn't a trophy.

Since 2005 English clubs have contested 5 finals before this one.

Only once has an english club managed to come out victorious in those five finals and that was against another English club.

Let's hope bayern can prolong that stat.

You'd be the first to say it Biggsy—Champions league qualification is not a trophy. In Spurs' case it just sets them up for bigger disappointments.

No, it gives them a platform to establish themselves in the top tier and widen the distance relative to the rest of the league. But fuck it, let's ignore all that. It's clearly a lot more important that Chelsea, who'll spend another £100 million or so on transfers in the summer and continue to do so for as long as Abramovich is alive and kicking, don't pick up another trophy.

How about acknowledging that you're arguing from a different set of assumptions here Klaus? Most of us simply can't abide the idea of Chelsea and their hall of villains lifting the Champions League, a view which makes this argument about Spurs (allegedly) building a platform pretty irrelevant.

The line about Spurs being set up "for bigger disappointments" was tongue in cheek, though they are a pack of bottlers led by a non-manager.

Their own mothers can't stand them. It doesn't change the fact that they're a lesser evil than Spurs, or that Arsenal have more to gain from them winning the cup and nicking the last Champions League spot. Any possible outcome is a bit of a downer but I'd rather see the wheels falling off the Spurs wagon than watch a bunch of cunts failing a cup that they'll try to buy again next year anyway.

So long as you've got a handle on all the fachts then 🙂

It's a Johnny Howard like wedge theres no right answer. 😉
I like the Kids idea about dragging Spurs hopes out till August and they lose anyway, oh the exquisite agony.....

spurs will just make up the numbers in the cl anyway, and it will ultimately affect their league from. they'll do their yoyo back down the table.

fuck chelsea, i hope bayern nick it from them in the last minute

I'm certainly not worried about Spurs progressing too far in the comp next season.

Best outcome would of course be Bayern to win next Saturday and Spuds losing the qualifier.

If I MUST pick though - I am with Klaus on this one. Spuds future as a potential top tier PL club is in the balance. Under no circumstances do I want them to in the CL next year.
