TambourineMan we almost need another thread on squad numbers. Available ones at the moment I think are:

3, 5, 10, 14, 18, 25, 26, 27, 30 and then most others apart from 33 (Cala), 36 (Zubi), 41 (Rice) and 49 (MLS)

Ideally Gabby J gives him 9 and takes 10 himself but I would guess he will take 10. He has the self belief to take 14 as well. He'll probably therefore take 27 or something equally random.

This part is frankly ridiculous to me. The difference in quality between PL and the Portuguese League is far bigger than La Liga vs. PL (and the difference would probably not be in La Liga's favor).

@Burnwinter Klaus you apply complaints made by some fans over quality differences to a made-up scenario where the same quality difference wouldn't actually occur, and so the made-up scenario understandably sounds silly because of this.

Quite sure that Klaus is modelling the folly of an imagined displaced English parochialism with respect to Sporting and Gyökeres, rather than making truth claims about the relative strength of La Liga and the PL.

The fact everyone's so convinced Klaus has just missed how much insanely higher football standards are in England than in Portugal, while also complaining that Varandas is an Iberian Scrooge McDuck as Arsenal walk away with what's arguably the bargain of the last month across all European football transfers, isn't really doing the premises of his joke any harm.

QuincyAbeyie The point was mainly that they had to sell one of their greatest players in living memory for a heavy market discount relative to his quality, to a bunch of fans that don't really seem to appreciate it. It wasn't supposed to read as a 1:1 comparison. I'm sorry if I misled anyone into thinking that the difference between Primeira Liga and Premier League is about the same as the difference between Premier League and La Liga. I hope no one made any big bets based on this information.

QuincyAbeyie It's a commonplace rhetorical strategy: one makes an analogy to the object of critique, but makes it with an inversion or displacement the estrangement of which emphasises or revives those features of the object under analogy otherwise lost in the dogma of common sense.

As to you calling it silly, well it might be, but for you to claim as much is as if I were to sneakily attempt to irritate you by "just asking" some faux-neutral question oriented around a disingenuously schematic and simple, but otherwise logical organisation of the premises of some discussion we were having, as if I were deniably insinuating that the challenge to answer would lead to you being lured into some superficially self-contradictory or silly position.

Klaus let's put it this way: my stance is that if Real Madrid was to buy Saka and his performances came in a far inferior league, I don't think it would be weird for their fans to be wary of that. But since he plays in the PL, that makes the entire difference.

Since you seem to disagree, I'm quite happy to leave it at that.

lorddulaarsenal There’s plenty of space in the Prem (it’s La Liga where space is at a premium IMO). The challenge for Gyökeres will be that he’s not going to have a physical advantage anymore in the Prem, so he’s not going to be able to battering-ram defenders and dominate games physically.

lorddulaarsenal if you watch the videos of him vs Everton they double mark him all the time. Can't do that and double up on Saka without leaving yourself exposed everywhere else. Then watch him vs City where they didn't double mark him and he tore them apart.

Ray had no problem against Akanji, Gvardiol, etc either.
