The best solution would have been to sign a proper left winger. Instead - we've gone for another fixer upper.
Noni has spent his entire career playing on the right - learning to cut inside and shoot. I think the greatest benefit of signing him is that he future proofs against any adverse Saka scenarios. It mitigates against any future injury risks because Madueke is more than a capable replacement and he has the potential to really challenge Saka in the position.
While Saka is fit - we will mostly see Madueke on the left hand side where he's barely ever played. While he would be on his stronger foot - his body positioning is awkward because he is still facing inside rather than outside which is the entire point of using him there. He can pursue crossing situations like Martinelli does but with the benefit of using his stronger foot. However, it will be a learning curve for him because that isn't what he's spent his entire career learning to do.
I see the vision but I just don't understand why it was necessary at this stage of the project. Signs that Arteta just isn't under any pressure.
I have hopes for Madueke being a good signing. but we could have bought someone much better.
