Good seeing this from Madueke, quick fluid and incisive. Martinelli is more an in behind player whereas I think Madueke even on the left can bring something very different.

He does look a little bit more creative than Martinelli. That backheel to play MLS through on the halfway line was also very nice.

Remains to be seen whether he can match Marty's output. If he can, he will make that LW spot his. As some have said, may not turn out to be that easy.

Him and Martinelli fighting for that spot can only be a good thing for our team. Hopefully there will be another signing that can really drive up the competition for us in that position...

How much of the Madueke/Martinelli contest comes down to who cements their place as our starting LB?

MLS definitely comes narrower and plays more like a midfielder, which I think favors Madueke's play style.

In contrast, Califiori stays a little wider, overlaps, and seems more a fit for Martinelli.

MistaT Well considering Califiori has a record of 3 games started in a row max before getting injured, this is a easy one.

MistaT I think this is definitely true. It also may not be a case of who solidifies their spot there but moreso a scenario where we have pairings that will work with different setups depending on what we need in a match or game state.

Calling it a steal in May might be pushing it but when you look at those fees Madueke fee is in line with other wide players this window.

Think the real genius signings are Gyökeres and Zubimendi when you look at these fees. Got them for half of what they're comparatively worth.

Klaus Zubimendi was down to release clause but agreed that deal will look like a bargain in the coming years. I think he'll be one if not the best transfer of this window. We've been on his case for at least two years now.

Gyokeres his desire to join us helped get it done, he pushed hard and Sporting despite their tactics were simply not going to get what they wanted.

He looks good man. Arteta is gonna be vindicated on Noni like he was with Havertz. He can play LW for sure. Just still feels like we're one player short...

CPM arteta was so vindecated with Havertz that he had to replace him both in his original role he was brought in for, the number 8, and at the number 9.
Took about 4 months for Arteta to realize that he was not good enough for the 8, and we started looking for a new striker last January...

The issue really isn't Havertz quality (or perceived lack thereof). I know you think it is, but it isn't, it's that there wasn't anyone else.

I'm not a Havertz hater, but there's not much comparison to Havertz here because Madueke will be on wages that allow reselling him or using him as a fringe player without a guilty conscience. He's also a very different player and personality as far as I can see. As the listings above show, the fee we've paid is quite normal.

Yeah he's a squad player he doesn't excel at anything and his best attribute is working hard but that isn't what you should be looking for firstly in forwards.

Absolutely. Glad we have him. Hope he gets some end product going soon, but was out best attacking outlet by miles..won us all those corners, and put Kerkez under a lot of pressure, limiting his offensive contributions. Shame rice couldn't find a single target.
