His salary is so high because we had to convince him to join us without CL football and ensure that his arrival got us into the CL. Him and long with Zinchenko were key players in ensuring that we ended up competing for the title and cementing ourselves as a top 2 club again.
His goal output was poor but his link play and creativity was world class. Not a coincidence that Martinelli’s best season came with him leading the line. Their link play on the left was a joy to watch.
In 22/23 he had 11 G/A in 16 PL games before his injury, he was doing fine and imo we’ve never been so fluid and good to watch under Arteta. As good as he has been it’s all useless if you can’t keep yourself fit, after his hatrick earlier this season I was hoping he’d get back to similar levels but his body simply is not up to it.
