He and Giroud here would mean they are effectively competing for a starting spot at the WC, no? Pretty good motivation to start showing up for every game I imagine.
Also, it's not my money so they can spend as much as they like upgrading from an average striker who trots around the pitch sulkily to a very good one who does the same. Don't believe this for a second mind you.
Benzema
y va marquer wrote:Benzema is the type of striker who could take the game to the opposition isn't he?
On form he would probably turn a game on his own, blazing from a deeper position and bearing down on goal, he'd be more direct, shoot from the edge of the box?
Wouldn't be trying to walk the into the net.
yep on his day he could be scoring a great solo goal like Henry, on another day he could missed an absolutely ridiculous sitter.
anyway there are serious underrating of benzema here. He clearly is top tier
Weren't he and Ribery charged with soliciting an underage prostitute? Isn't that still ongoing? Would surely be some serious implications if found guilty so probably a risk Wenger wouldn't want to take. Anyway, we're not signing anyone at this price level.
Yes, the case is ongoing. The maximum penalty either will face is 3 years' jail time - or they could be fined the equivalent of a few days' wages.
There seems to be quite a bit of confusion over whether they knew the prostitute's real age, so I doubt there will be a conviction unless there's some significant evidence the tabloids haven't gotten hold of yet in that regard.

Nah, he probably supplies them.
So, is soliciting an underage prostitute more or less abhorrent than Rooney diving or Suarez biting?
I don't know but it's definitely less disgusting than Rooney soliciting an old age prostitute
Basically my mental image of Rooney is him at his ugly baldest, diving to break our winning streak with his end in some grandma. No thanks.
The prostitute didn't look underage at all, doubt they had any idea to be honest.

el grauniad reckons were weighing up a 46m sterling bid
fuck it, lets just do the thang
Mega bid.
However I fully expect us to end up with Flamini, Bendtner returning, and Vermaelen and Ryo being "like new signings."
#Arseneknows
No chance of us signing benzema. We simply won't spend that much
Plus I reckon Benzema has zero interest in leaving Madrid to come here.
of all the rumours of the last few days, this is the least likely signing. too many moving parts for a deal like this to happen at this stage of the window
I feel about Benzema like Alfonso feels about Rooney. He would revitalize the team.
little bit dependent on Suarez. again.
one thing i mentioned earlier in the summer was having one in the bag. if we'd bought Higuain, we'd still be able to come back for a Suarez or Benzema and offload Giroud next summer. it would leave us unbalanced for a season, but over 60 or so games, that would be 180 starting spots in the front-line giving plenty of opportunity for all the above, Walcott, Podolski, etc

What I mean is, the way he sort of has that slouched, nonchalant appearance for large periods, but with the ball at his feet can create magic. Obviously I'm comparing him to the Arshavin of several years ago.

Yep thats French alright, all he needs is the shoulder shrug and constant expression of boredom.

Interesting.
Different league different supporting players different opponents meaningless statistics.

Amazing plan, isn't it. Do nothing except release a rumor and hope it sets the wheels in motion with only 1 week to go.
I think he will try again in January when the water is over our heads.

Minutes per goal is really impressive!
Benzema will not go to Arsenal
INFO JDD - The Real Madrid striker will not go to Arsenal, contrary to what the British press. The agent scorer team France confirms contrary to JDD.fr he discusses a three-year extension with the Spanish club. The British media, the BBC head, imitated from the Spanish press, and ensure Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would be taken action regarding the hiring of Karim Benzema. The $ 45 million (or 10 more than the amount paid for the bringing of Olympique Lyonnais in 2009) and a salary of 150,000 euros per week were notably covered.
Information scanned by Karim Djaziri, his agent since its inception, Saturday JDD.fr : "We can not fight against rumors But I assure you:.. Karim will not go to Arsenal He did never even been mentioned and no contact has been established. obviously remains to Madrid.'s probable arrival of Real Madrid Gareth Bale (Tottenham winger should land against € 100 million) the threat absolutely not. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale play arrows on the sides and Karim pointed. " Hatched by Florentino Perez, the Madrid president, and Zidane, now assistant coach, Benzema is the center forward's number one club, starting Gonzalo Higuain in Naples guaranteeing this status.
Thats that. The rumours that we were feeding the media these stories are probably true then.

Not exactly surprising - no reason for Benzema to want to leave Madrid for us unless he was been driven out.

Huh?
The media need our help to make stuff up now?
Who the fuck are we going to get up front? We need someone.
I don't think we're going to get a striker.
Benteke. Not a personal fan of that idea but we've reached the point where there aren't many other options left. We need to open negotiations before it's too late. Villa already have Helenius waiting on the bench to replace him too. They clearly expected him to leave this summer.
There's Michu too who would be a fine addition. Both of them have Premier League experience.
I wish we would go for Benteke but I'd bet Wenger doesn't think him super enough quality to pay the price that Villa would ask

He's such a threat. Huge man.
I'd rather spend 40m on him than benzema
Benteke's not looking the huge threat against Liverpool today.
Been quite poor.
There´s nobody now that is THAT much of an upgrade on Giroud\Podolski and that will go for a reasonable\Arsenal-esque sum. Perhaps Michu, but I can´t see Benteke leaving for less than 30million now that he´s signed another contract.
Fuck it, leave the striker powder dry for Suarez next season (hopefully after Wenger leaves). I would get di Maria now though and a proper mid + defender.
I know Wenger has said that our pursuit of Suarez is dead but I think we are firmly in for him still, just waiting to complete qualification on Tuesday.
Wenger saying things like he is convinced players will come because they want to come here and players asking questions on CL just makes me think that we will end up with Suarez in the end.
Personally, I think he's telling it as it is.

This. Fix our other positions and try again for Suarez/another striker in January/summer. I wouldn't mind Giroud being our first choice striker as long as we get a winger of Di Maria's quality.
Unless Suarez starts vandalising Melwood to get his move, there is no chance to get him.
