Progress isn't always linear. That being said, we're within our rights to expect a measure of tangible success next season. I don't think however we need to write things off when the window has barely (prematurely) opened, for all the reasons you've outlined in terms of the progress we have made the last few years.

RocktheCasbah no worries😆 I understand that there is potential but we (and I don't even mean just Arteta'a team) have not been good at following up getting to multiple finals but rather have massively underachieved.

The missed opportunity is just the variables that don't often repeat, an inter side eliminating a Barca but actually not being a very threatening team. Rice stepping up in a big match against Madrid with individual brilliance which changes the tie. These things don't always come at once so while we may fight our way back the path will likely be a lot harder and currently we haven't been able to take those steps when it's difficult. I also don't think we are going to be like a Madrid or PSG regularly in these positions,I think we gave a limited window tied to a player like Saka to make the most of our time in the sun and there may only be another 3 or 4 goes to win it.

We have the potential to change that but so far we haven't shown with this team we can make that step so I don't have confidence it will happen.

don't be obtuse, you said Ode would've passed it back to recycle possession and Vitinha did exactly that in the vid. What happens later does not change that fact.

The only real difference in the play v Odegaard here is that he would've found that forward pass sooner and made it from the halfway line.

It was reported he was "set for a medical" a week ago, hearing now he's still "set for a medical" except apparently he's at the beach at San Sebastián on Instagram.

None of which matters as it seems the deal's locked down. However one annoying detail doing the rounds is that La Real have insisted on lodging the transfer in July for accounting purposes, so maybe this will drag on another month before it's official.

JazzG this is as simple as putting an effective date on the transaction pending conditions to be met by the player - ie he can pass a medical

Burnwinter This has been a really hard transfer to get over the line so if we have to wait a month that isn't the end of the world. Just as long as he is there for preseason and properly trains with us.
