Burnwinter Squires is great - love his stuff.
Open play chances
Asterix Been a tiny bit hit and miss lately (I've come to expect brilliance) but that one was great.
Don Pacifico I don't think either post negates the other.
Yeah, I mean I think we all agree because the facts are relatively clear? We have clearly been doing very well in general, but we are clearly not in pole position to win the league this season, and we are clearly short of at least one elite forward.
awooga83 But my thought is last season I think we were running hot pretty much at our peak and our average level might be a bit below that
Contra that, the form we're in now is a carbon copy of the form we were in leading up to Christmas last season (remember the "finishing crisis"?). Our results are slightly worse, but we got lucky many times last season and that hasn't happened lately.
If I had to make a wager I'd say a superb back half of 23–24 might have reduced the urgency around signing forwards last summer.
goon We were having the same discussions last season and after Jan we had no problems scoring and it wasn’t because of set pieces. By May there were no questions.
To be fair, I think there were quite a few people who really wanted us to sign a top forward over summer, which didn't happen. I was personally more keen on getting in a brilliant younger deep-lying playmaker or pivot, a Henry-esque left winger was my second preference.
goon From my point of view, a little tweak could make us the best team in Europe.
If we bring in a left winger even eight tenths as good as Saka it'll be game over for these motherfuckers. We talked about this a lot last summer but all of Saka, Øde and Havertz would have a field day with the extra 1–2 yards of space a true left-sided threat would produce for them.

Fully agree with this, we had an exceptional back end to the season which is not normal and allowed us to fall into the trap of maybe we don't need to address the attacking side of our game as urgently because look at the goals we got.
Can’t take my eyes off this goal
Claudius didn't realize in real-time how much of a blatant penalty that was.
QuincyAbeyie glad he stayed on his feet because without VAR who knows what transpires
Great that Jesus got the advantage but that is a suicidal tackle by the defender totally brainless should have just stayed on his feet and presented an obstacle. I did not understand why he went for a slide really but Jesus got the rub with that and took his chance which you need sometimes. His 3rd was a bit like that because if I remember correctly Henderson did an early dive rather then just stay big another thing I didn't understand why. But he needed some luck to break.
But absolutely if he manages to string a run together we have to use it to get him moved on whatever happens now he isn't what we need.
Chalógach basically gifted us 3 goals. Jesus took them superbly but it's rare to see defenders give us such chances. I think players are just less switched on in league cup games
Pepe LeFrits Chalógach
Quite a good nickname for Jesus.
How the fuck does Jesus finish like that but look absolutely shite in front of goal the majority of the time?
Lukazan Tbh his first touch wouldn't have beaten any decent defender. And his chip was also mishit. I'll take it, but I'm not counting on him making a habit of stuff like this.
I was more impressed with the other two goals. Those were quite nicely hit, no dilly-dallying, just smash it into the bottom corner.

Hopefully that was the boost he needed, usually a confidence player so we'll see how he performs today as a starter.
We might have to repurpose Martinelli into a RW. His head down running down the byline and looking to cross move is far more effective when he's doing it on his stronger foot.

daredevil think he played well and being able to cross on his right is certainly favourable rather than on his weaker foot. However his overall performance, not just the goal or the assist, but the amount of times he's getting on the ball and having the fullback and Odegaard combining with him just gives you more confidence.
He is no Saka, but that not a stick to beat him with because no player in the PL is. But one thing going for players on the right side of our team, is that each one has another 2 top quality players around them to play triang;es with. The left side is sorely missing that though with MLS and Cala this may be getting resolved. The issue with the left 8 is still one we are having.
