Tactics

The attack needs serious revamp in the summer. It's lacking in pace and unpredictability. ideally we sell 3 of our forwards and bring in the same number.

Mikel Merino looked more like the Sociedad version. We don't need to play Rice through injury if we continues playing like this.

Really frustrating we couldn't hold on to our lead. Oh well at least we gained a point on City.

Havertz was poor again too. People try to talk him up but his forms gone and the lack of an alternative is a huge issue.

Qwiss has not scored away from home this season lol. I know it's unpopular as hell here, as he is loved by our fan base for some reason but he will be Artetas undoing. That was a huge fuck up, 60 mil and highest salary to fix our CM, and we picked Havertz, that fucked us in the middle, moved him to striker ... where he will always be almost guy, never good enough. Now we don't sign a striker cuz... what the fuck do we do with Havertz?

Qwiss yeah Arteta tactically is a defensive cautious coach and everything he does is about that first. It's why we don't really go for attacking quality but look for hardworking players and then if they can still attack good on them but Arteta is not actively looking for attacking quality. Saka is exceptional because despite what he's asked to do going back he can still get forwards but we are just lucky we had a player like that.

As you say with all the focus on the defensive side we still don't look great at the back and the team is playing with a nick a goal and try to hold out approach except more often this season we need more then that.

awooga83 also think a consistently and overly conservative approach can create doubt in the minds of the players. Why aren't we going after these guys? Aren't we good enough? Maybe the other mob really are that good...etc.

Our attack may fire if and when Arteta's 'system' finds its groove. No sooner.

Our defence was solid when we were suffocating teams with our press, keeping teams pegged in their own half while Gabriel and Saliba cleaned up everything that broke loose.

We aren't pressing or playing like that at the moment, so our defence is being attacked in various different phases (mid and low blocks) which wasn't where the defence was known to be solid.

HomeSteak he's a decent player but yeah the wage is silly and he's not the sort of player you can have at CF for 90 minutes every week. The biggest blunder is having no alternative for him. He's a streaky player, he has off games and he looks exhausted. We need an alternative even if its not the new Haaland.

SimplyThePest I live in the reality that this is only the second time this group of players has played together and every game has been a cluster. To see our captain back and see some improvements is encouraging.

I am able to process that while accepting at the same time that overall this season has not been good enough, and that the league is likely done. I also have said in wish lists what 2 positions I think we need. I don’t need to repeat them incessantly on every forum.

Clrnc I feel like this is missing the forest for the trees a bit? Given our progression the last few seasons, we should be on a strength-to-strength trajectory. Understand we’ve had bad luck in some regards this season, but there’s also a lot of fundamental issues that could have been avoided (recruitment strategy, over-reliance on certain players, tactical setup in certain circumstances).

Wasn’t really impressed with Chelsea today. Feel like pool, city and (hypothetically) us are 2-3 notches better. Really feels like a game that a title challenger should win, even by multiple goals
