Interesting timing (and decision from him), with Vini leaving in the summer and us still to fulfill our trophy potential.

hopefully this is not a sign of some kind of inner fracturing. hard to imagine he's found a bigger/better opportunity somewhere else

Sources have told Sky Sports News that the Brazilian has been under consideration for a role with Evangelos Marinakis’s group of clubs.

who is that?

We've done well since Edu has cemented his role. I've always been inclined to think it's more correlation than causation though. Recruitment has been good albeit, I'm yet to see how much he's contributed to that beyond being the middle man between our recruitment department and Arteta. We've also sold most our players for a pittance and been continuously fleeced by those we look to buy from. There have been signs of improvement in the last 6 months but I'm very open to there being a replacement and one that challenges Arteta more (which is a comment on Edu, not on Arteta).

Sad to see him go. But I think a lot of fans will be excited by this given the complaints about our summer window.

Good. Get someone that has balls to tell Arteta NO from time to time.

Replacing Edu isn't necessarily an issue, but unless he has a better job lined up you have to wonder why.

QuincyAbeyie He will have a bigger role at Nottingham, at the group that own Nottingham, so he will be the biggest boss at 3 clubs, they also have Rio Ave in Portugal and some team in Greece.
Again, we can and should do better, I'm not worried.

yeah and just a little thing I remembered, Txiki Begiristain is leaving City in the summer, right?

SimplyThePest I'm just saying that one of the best out there... is free. Yeah, he probably is a piece of shit, but kinda have to be in todays football.

JazzG yeah, this doesn't surprise. From what I can tell, Edu's best talent is his gift for self-promotion. He's all about getting that pay rise and promotion, less concerned with the job at hand. I'm being flippant but I do think there is some truth to that...

It's hard to evaluate whether a DoF is good while they're in situ since most of what they do is behind close doors and confidential. I guess we'll soon find out whether Edu was a good DoF or not through the benefit of hindsight - at the very least, he had a good relationship with the manager which isn't a given.

they say hindsight is 20/20, but this is nasty reading. and if all Edu does is sign the players Arteta wants then he won't really be missed because all the successes and failures would belong to the manager.
