Maybe the biases of the referees made them blind to on-field decisions being wrong, or maybe they disagree with the on-field decision, but let it pass because he's their colleague and they want to support him. The latter is on purpose, and if you don't think that's happening in the league then I guess we'll just have to disagree.

    If a referee is unconsciously biased, then he's an idiot. It's like excusing a judge for having unconscious bias and putting black kids away while letting white guys go free for the same offenses. Bullshit. Their job is to be conscious of their biases and to manage them. If they can't, bin 'em.

    FWIW, there's no way I can ever be convinced they they have any unconscious biases. They know exactly how they feel.

    One individual could be unconsciously biased but an entire organisation...? It's not like Michael Oliver is the only one with issues.

      Mirth in a career that is almost literally about managing biases, to be unaware of your own seems slightly ludicrous.

                    This one is about rules in general: I think the handball rule as currently written is unfairly biased in favor of defenders. Gives them the benefit of doubt that is not afforded to strikers.

                    If a ball accidentally hits a defender whilst he or she is defending in his/her box, it should 100% be a penalty. Regardless of context, regardless of where the arms were located. Up or down or behind the back. Matters not.

                    For me that's the equivalent of what is currently going on with handball as pertains to strikers in the box.

                      No way that would be terrible. The CL is much better on hand ball than the PL because it isn't overly strict. Players shouldn't be punished for having arms.

                          Qwiss I think it could work if goals were ever so slightly devalued by changing offside to the daylight model. I mean, it's not punishing people for having arms, it's punishing them for failing to play the ball fairly.
