I genuinely don't think the Doku incident is anything like the Trossard one, Doku literally knocks the ball back to where the free kick is supposed to be taken from.

Tross had just smashed into Bernardo, which was a daft challenge to begin with (so subconsciously he was surely expecting a whistle), and then boots the ball away - and no, I don't think he was genuinely trying to play Martinelli in. Oliver is a cunt, but this was nuts from Trossard.

RocktheCasbah He booted it because he thought the half was over, which it was. Oliver just extended it with a few more seconds so he could send him off.

Not just that, Oliver is pointing to where the freekick should be taken and Doku kicks it in the general direction. It's completely different to Trossard who boots the ball away after the whistle had gone. The Szoboszlai decision last week is more akin to the Trossard one which Oliver didn't deem worthy of a yellow and is the more egregious example of inconsistency.

On reflection, none of this would have been an issue if Rice and Trossard weren't already carded. They were both stupid to go and do something questionable when they were on yellow cards, when everyone knows, you need to play on a tight rope there onwards.

RocktheCasbah So I think as much as it's hard to take Michael Oliver's application of the laws, it's actually the laws of the game which are the problem.

In Aussie Rules the referee can give a 50m penalty for things such as delaying a restart or dissent. I think football should introduce something similar - move the free kick into the other teams half.

Asterix They do a similar thing in rugby where they move it forward 10 metres for things like delaying or dissent.
