Qwiss Chelsea bought Kepa for €80m. They’ve been trying to sell him outright or loan him with an option to buy. His preference was Real Madrid. They’ve been working on this all summer.
The record keeper eventually went on loan to Bournemouth with no option to buy this week.

Pool spent €30m on their highly rated young keeper from La Liga, but have also had to loan him back to the selling club as part of the deal, so discount that price.

Otherwise what you find is not a lot of movement. If anything, the big clubs typically have too many keepers on their books right now and need to sell or loan out.

Mirth the two things aren't mutually exclusive though. Yes, there is context beyond our control that has made it harder for us to sell him but Edu/Arteta have to shoulder some blame for also making decisions that have precipitated a difficult sale.

I don't think £50m was ever realistic and would have valued him nearer £30-35m; to not even have a guaranteed £20m coming in is disappointing.

Don Pacifico agreed. We let ourselves be in this position, this late in the window and only very few takers. In that sense 18m is already quite "decent". Let's not forget we sold Leno for 5m in the past.

It's a good fee in that we are not going to get more in the current circumstances. It's a bad deal overall in that these circumstances were created by us. so we essentially paid 60 mil for a keeper, and got 20 back. It is what it is, time to move on, and all the best to Ramsdale. I'll miss the banter.

FEBravo agree that we didn’t do well on a lifecycle basis for Ramsdale. Sell a pre prime goalie and lose 30% on his acquisition price. Not great all things being equal.

Definitely goalie market and his wages need to be taken into account. However, don’t count it as 60-20. Raya is separate and continuing to yield a lot of value for us.

Will be interesting to see what happens to squad player salaries going forward. The guys who don’t regularly make it over 1000 minutes.

Only 1 million on PL survival. Wonder how much of the other payments are caught up in unlikely scenarios like European qualification. And is there a sell on clause?

Qwiss I doubt that the incentives would be unrealistic. The Lehman deal was structured as £3m guaranteed +2+2+1. We’ve apparently secured that full additional £5m already, based on appearances and Fulham staying up.

Claudius for Jens Lehman? 😆 Assume you mean Leno. That was another absolutely terrible sale BTW. Even with all the add ons Leno has been worth more for them.

On the bright side I did read that Ramsdale has a sell on clause. That's something.

Worth adding that we've ultimately made a loss on Ramsdale, not even accounting for inflation. That's really poor given he's been a good performer for us.

Poor would have been letting him go on a loan with no obligation.

Breaking even is a good deal given he was essentially demoted. I also don't think another club would have come in for him and are lucky that Southampton's first choice failed a medical.

The market dictates a players value and his lack of options was deafening.

Qwiss one of these crazy Germans. I was thinking about Lehman because yesterday someone reminded me about how he bought the rights to the Invincibles trademark. But he actually did it to protect the players and staff from that squad and ensure they reap the rewards.

Qwiss it's wild seeing a top German international keeper sold 5m in his prime then see other youth keepers being traded for 15-25m and then they sit on benches. It was one of the worst sale I have seen

Perspectives. I'm ecstatic with that. It's great to get him off the books and it'll be great to see him playing again. Didn't think we'd crack £20m and this, finally, sets to rest a lot of my concerns about how it was all handled a year ago.

RowJimmy Nah we are different now. It's now quite clear Nketiah prefers to stay in London as well, but we held firm on our price and didn't let it go down. We are slightly better at sales these days

daredevil your last line is a truism but also a very passive way at looking at squad management. We have some agency managing these situations and we shouldn't pretend otherwise (eg.giving him a new contract and then benching him).

Also, we're not breaking even on his sale, we're making a loss (not even taking into account inflation).

We've done better due to focusing on it properly, I reckon. Good to see Edu coming through with these sales, he's had to learn the game and I'm happy with how we've done. Very glad if we're avoiding another season of head in hands regarding Smith Rowe and Ramsdale, it's an unaerodynamic nuisance.

Don Pacifico Financially it's still disappointing, but £18m rising to £25m (albeit under slightly unlikely circumstances) with a possible sell-on clause is better than I've predicted. I was pretty convinced we wouldn't shift him at all till a day ago, so the situation looks far brighter today. The amount we're looking to shell out on Garcia reminds me of "two number ones" all over again however.
