Yeah. I was going to say the same. This isn't even cheap and deep midfield is the one position on the field where we're already really old and need to get much younger. I don't really get this aside from Arteta being a freak who wants us to win every header.

I don't think that is enough, we are one injury out of those four and we will be short. Imo we need a quick player and someone else who can be bought in to push our current players and also take some of their minutes. Saka was running on fumes at the end of the season.

And they are also signing Carlos Soler now to replace Merino for around 15m euros. That's quite good value for them

Don Pacifico probably not about how long he can last in his career here but the fact that we should be able to negotiate a lower fee than that.

Always felt the same for Raya as well who had 1 year left.

If that group replicate their form from last season it won't be enough for the title. We need Martinelli to get back to 22/23 levels and Jesus to recover his early Arsenal form.

daredevil jesus is an injury worry, and would be covering both striker and winger positions, so imo we're not as loaded up front as it would appear. it's all about ingredients, and the one thing we're missing up front is pace and power that we can spam on those bad days when the Rube Goldberg breaks down. remember, we're aiming for 95 or so points here. all these margins matter

daredevil Not ignoring Trossard at all- he's a vital piece of our attacking rotation but he's not a field stretcher by any means so I still think we need another profile to add to our attack that will add more speed and ball striking. I am a big believer in Trossard, especially as an impact sub across any of the frontline roles.

I'd be surprised if Merino didn't end up being better value than that.

Clrnc I'll be interested to see what sort of wage he gets. He's on quite a low wage now if reports are to be believed. We should be able to get him here on a reasonable wage, if we can't do that questions need to be asked.

I don't think the wingers were ever the problem. Martinelli and Saka delivered two seasons ago. Trossard and Saka delivered last season.

The issue was the striker. We got half a season from Jesus and half a season from Havertz. If we can get a full season from either or both combined, whilst our wingers just maintain their performances. That's an uplift.

Would be a big gamble not to reinforce the front line. Trossard’s goals masked some pretty poor performances, and I thibk he’s started to slow down too.

Jesus can’t be trusted to stay fit.

Vieira, even if you do have faith in him, is not the sort of winger we’re accustomed to playing with.

Tactics

I like our forwards individually but I'm not a fan as a collective due to the lack of pace. We saw last season we needed to play in the opposition half in order to create chances, looked almost toothless when we sat/got pinned back. Forwards with pace, trickery/good dribbling ability and an eye for goal could take this team to another level.

I like Merino and hope this deal goes through. I remember watching him and Zubimendi quite often and thinking, we are frequently linked with the latter but this Merino guy seems to be every bit as good (even though they play different positions).

Amazing that people are complaining about the Merino signing and fee. He looks perfect for us. And he's a top player – Barca and Atletico were in for him, it's not like he's some mug warming the bench for Osasuna. He's gonna cost more than £15m!

CPM yep. Every single decent player out there is expensive, a lot of the time the shit ones as well. The market is just fucked. Also, long gone are the days when DM were the cheapest players...I'm happy with the deal

Claudius spanish duel monster with good dribbling, passing and movement. not much to dislike really, other than him being a bit older than our usual profile

HomeSteak and unfortunately as an 88 point team, the deep lying players we are looking at would need to be a Rodri/Fabregas/Busquers level players or close. I think everyone sees the issues at DM, but the transfer solves aren’t easy at all. I’d rather solve from within. See how Cala, Saliba, etc can share deep distribution with Rice; keep using Kai as a target for direct balls.
