Trump will probably revert to type and do some bullshit but when he starts protecting those people around him the democrats will be in no position to claim the moral high ground. Both parties are essentially corrupt, depending on what side you’re on usually dictates how much of the corruption you’ll tolerate!

JazzG I agree that the democrats will have no legitimate ground to attack the republicans on this front so you'll get no defence from me on that. As I said I'd you believe in principled politics it's very disappointing. My point is if enough people vote for populists and trump Musk and the tech oligarchs then corruption is not really what he's public care about. The public can't get animated about either side doing this stuff because they have allowed it by voting this way. Trump has corrupted politics and now the democrats and Biden have added there own aspect. This has all come out of how politics has trended post 2016.

How he deals with Elon Musk will be interesting, Elon for all his talents is a bit of a loose cannon. The tech sector thriving gives the US supremacy in that field over the rest of the world and I think one of the things Trump wants more than anything is for the US to land on Mars under his presidency. The Tech bros can help keep them ahead in technology but Musk is the only person who can get someone on Mars while Trump is president but he’ll also have to tolerate him! Trump loves the attention but Musk has been making a lot for the headlines recently. How long can Trump keep his own ego in check lol.

I also don’t believe this idea Trump has corrupted politics. American politics has always been corrupt but Trump got called out for it a lot more than others. He’s made it more brash and possibly a bit more ugly but it’s always been rotten when it comes to corruption.

JazzG it's naked oligarchy. trump is blatantly for sale more than any politician in American history. it was 80 billionaires donating to kamala vs 50 billionaires donating to trump, despite the marketing campaign that somehow trump was anti-establishment. his administration has the highest net worth of any administration in history. the top 3 donors for the whole cycle were trump donors (musk, adelson etc) who far out-spent any 1 individual donor on the democrat side. giving a donor like musk an office space at the Whitehouse is the next evolution in oligarchic control of US politics. the elites have broken through the glass ceiling of the already -corrupt lobbying system, and now its just an open auction under trump. 'but now it's out in the open! it was covert before!' is as remedial a take as 'I like my racism out in the open'. people don't realise that if these people aren't even bothering to be covert anymore thats actually NOT a good thing. it means they're comfortable they have so much power they can crush any opposition to their agenda, and have an army of culture-baited bootlickers ready to carry their water as well

People made all these stories up about what would happen under Trump last time and none of it happened. Some people just never learn. We can review this in 2028 and I'd guess a lot of the stuff being said now won't happen again.

And that's the exact example of the way Trump had dragged the presidency even further in the mud, using the role to sell things directly and enrich himself. Politics may have always been corrupt but there is no doubt Trump is the worst version of that so he has unquestionably made politics worse with accountability no longer part of the norm.

They won't be able to get to Mars unless they waste tons of public money trying to do that but they don't want to waste money right? Musk wouldn't allow any conflicts of interest to effect his efficiency role would he?

The tech oligarchs are not just billionaires they have massive power due to their platforms that effects people in other countries when they allow lies and extremism to spread.. They want to tell Europe and the UK what to do with any laws or regulation they want to bring against them and don't want regulation. Their whole sector has contributed significantly to many of the worse developments we've seen in society in the past decade as well. All they care about is money there is exploitation of vulnerable people and extremism on their platforms but they have no interest in dealing with it because they can make more money with it there.

See trump just pardoning the people involved in violently trying to overthrow an election to me that's about as awful as it gets from anyone so to say that Trump hasn't significantly worsened things just doesn't ring true for me.

Qwiss Musk himself is a loser no doubt but it's not him that's the main threat it's his platform and money that embolden other more dangerous fanatics and ones smarter then him who can easily manipulate it. The recent riots a case in point of how he directly contributes to misinformation and signal boosting extremist rhetoric that led to real world violence. So I less willingness to dismiss him as not a danger personally. I also think he's an awful human being so I don't think there are people I dislike more then him.

I agree with you. Based on his previous statements and social media behavior, we can ascertain first and foremost that Elon is a troll. But he also holds other troubling views on gender, race, nationalism, etc. He is the kind of person who would make a joke for his followers - insiders will get it for what it is, and the rest will be lost. And he will also be energized by that debate.

Seeing the world's richest men accompanying Trump at his inauguration was something. Just a bold declaration of oligarchy. Their interests are aligned with the president's - yet this is the people's president?
