Seems a pretty familiar media play for Trump by now ... he's set things up so he's the one who gets to demonstrate he's not bound by the rules, and he also puts himself in the audience of the whole spectacle by sharing the same kinds of jokes others have been ...

Makes it hard for opposing figures as if they stick to being polite and reasonable they seem weak or out of touch, but if they try to imitate him they have to escalate.

The Democrats also said liked to imply they were better than that, just seen a clip of Biden saying it concerns him the type of precedent it sets and said he wouldn't do that. Then again I don't think Biden has any idea of what he is doing right now. Already seen rumours that once Trump is in a lot of Democrats are gonna start leaking about what his mental state was really like, which then makes you wonder who was running the country?

Presidential pardon after the crime isn't very nice, giving blanket pardons before any crime or investigation imo is banana republic kind of stuff.

JazzG or rightly or wrongly he possibly believes Trump and his administration are the kind of people to hold grudge and try to settle scores however they can and he doesn't believe that some public servants deserve that treatment. I think it's very probable that Trump could be that petty so it could be a factor in that. Not everything is some conspiracy just people making decisions as they see are right.

awooga83 Biden is doing exactly what people said Trump would do. Trump campaigned on locking Hilary up and didn't follow through on it. Trump says a lot of shit and doesn't follow through on most of it.

Democrats including Biden on record for saying they wouldn't give pre-emptive pardons and here we are. They can make all the excuses they want, if they've done nothing wrong it will eventually get thrown out of court anyway so why pardon them? They might be innocent but giving out pardons like this only makes people think they are covering something up. Trump will probably do similar or worse so they can't complain about it then. Also like I said I don't think Biden is thinking anything right now and then doing this literally hours before leaving office!

pretty frightening inauguration speech. he has given his goons license to go after Latinos and LGBTQI community. was interesting to see how people just automatically stood up to applaud each of his announcements even though they are clearly designed to erode civil liberties in a country that has always prided itself as the greatest democracy.
poeple won't even notice when large groups of people's rights are violated over the next few years, and when they are slowly conditioned to be hateful, perhaps violent, to these minorities.

JazzG you can accuse them of being hypocrites absolutely and that's valid. But maybe he's just thought fuck it look at the way the world has gone you can try to stand for those things but if nobody cares you just give up like everybody else. If you believe in those principles absolutely it's disappointing but this is what the era of populism and Trumps politics has unleashed, it's the inevitable consequence of that politics winning out. If people really cared about integrity and truth at some point in the past the recent elections would suggest it's low on their requirements for a leader in the last 10 years.

awooga83 you are making excuses for him, there is no legitimate reason for him to give out pardons like this. The one for his son was bad but I could understand a father doing that for his son. This just stinks of corruption at the highest level.

Trump will probably revert to type and do some bullshit but when he starts protecting those people around him the democrats will be in no position to claim the moral high ground. Both parties are essentially corrupt, depending on what side you’re on usually dictates how much of the corruption you’ll tolerate!

JazzG I agree that the democrats will have no legitimate ground to attack the republicans on this front so you'll get no defence from me on that. As I said I'd you believe in principled politics it's very disappointing. My point is if enough people vote for populists and trump Musk and the tech oligarchs then corruption is not really what he's public care about. The public can't get animated about either side doing this stuff because they have allowed it by voting this way. Trump has corrupted politics and now the democrats and Biden have added there own aspect. This has all come out of how politics has trended post 2016.

How he deals with Elon Musk will be interesting, Elon for all his talents is a bit of a loose cannon. The tech sector thriving gives the US supremacy in that field over the rest of the world and I think one of the things Trump wants more than anything is for the US to land on Mars under his presidency. The Tech bros can help keep them ahead in technology but Musk is the only person who can get someone on Mars while Trump is president but he’ll also have to tolerate him! Trump loves the attention but Musk has been making a lot for the headlines recently. How long can Trump keep his own ego in check lol.

I also don’t believe this idea Trump has corrupted politics. American politics has always been corrupt but Trump got called out for it a lot more than others. He’s made it more brash and possibly a bit more ugly but it’s always been rotten when it comes to corruption.
