Seems difficult to justify anything the president does related to election certification an "official act", seeing as the FEC and EAC are overseen by house and senate committees and are independent agencies over which the president has no jurisdiction.

Coombs perhaps, but such a ruling does feel like it was aimed at muddying the waters just enough so that trumps legal team can squirm out of the Georgia and DC cases. it also re-emphasises that the supreme court is partisan body that will rule in favour of republicans

Gazza M for sure, but it's not a very strong ruling and its one of those that you can imagine being overturned down the line when the worm inevitably turns.

They didn't define what an official act is, so that's where the lawyering will have to focus moving forward. I could see an argument that official acts can only exist within the framework of presidential jurisdiction being quite difficult to refute, but these days who knows.

the worst part of this election cycle coming up is that when trump moonwalks in to a 2nd term and republicans take back the senate, id bet there is a 99% chance that thomas and alito both retire. trump will then appoint 2 extremely unqualified 40 something hacks to SCOTUS, like aileen cannon and matthew kaczmarek. at that point, they will have a 6-3 hammerlock on the court for another 30 years. at that point, i'll have either already died or be on my deathbed.

fascinating to watch the corporate media suddenly being so ruthless with their coverage of Biden, particularly CNN. it started within minutes of the debate ending. theyve become super adversarial, almost hostile, with anyone defending biden on their air. calls must have been made. there's a new script to follow

Yes, but it's sad it has to come to this. It's the classic emperor has no clothes tale. Folks who see Biden every day already knew this, yet they felt comfortable enough to wheel out his carcass, and stand it up at a public debate with the intention of showing people that everything is great. How arrogant. It's clear his handlers (Jill Biden) are the ones benefitting from his presidency and just want to enjoy the perks of office for as long as they can. Over here our options are the dead or the damned. And both are fools. These are not great options.

Can't see anything else at the moment , he's basically taken over the Republican party and got them under his control. The cranks are in charge there now!

Democrats are terrified of him and seem to think only Biden can beat him, only problem is Biden needs to be put in a care home not the white house! Like flobaba said, Biden's advisors/handlers more interested in keeping him in power than thinking of the country.

That's the thing, which one of her aides is telling her to keep saying it! I think I understand what she is trying to say

I saw her in a congressional hearing and she really went for the guy, I remember at the time thinking she's quite on it but fuck me since then she has come across as just being thick. Even in the debates she was dreadful. I think Biden wanted to just a woman or black woman for VP, I don't agree with that kind of stuff. Just choose who the best person is but surely he had better options?

It’s just the gratuitous pandering. She is saying in African American street parlance that she is experiencing / witnessing things same as everyday folk. They are trying to get foolish black people to support Biden because his VP, is like “us”, unlike the vaguely alluded to “they”. It’s trying. It’s trying too hard to be clever and “black”.

For me, it’s grating and insulting. But I’m not African American. Perhaps they can associate.
