You're talking as if converting isn't a part of how good a team is. It's not "making us look much worse." Converting fewer chances is being worse.

QuincyAbeyie yes, Quincy, because that is actually the case. Sometimes people convert a lot. Sometimes they don’t. There’s just variance around chance creation. There are very few players who over their careers consistently outperform opportunities. The thing that matters is volume. I feel like I am going to go blue from saying this. We need to create more scoring opportunities. Every game. And then you kill chance.

Clrnc I don't think it has much to do with trust. He just doesn't seem to believe in substitions.

Coombs and that's a huge problem itself. He doesn't dare to spoil the rhythm of the team it seems, so it ends up all the starters get burnt out by February and all the subs is rusty. 4 seasons in a row where we falter past January is not a coincidence, although this season it seems like its much earlier

Qwiss yep, agreed. Do we know where one is? I'm almost at the point where I would take Ivan Toney - though I don't think he is that "killer" just because he would be something different.

RocktheCasbah everything good that Havertz did in that first half Toney can do. Last season for instance he won the most aerial duels in the league. He has good link play, can hold it up but he's also pretty quick and a good finished. He seems to be the best realistic option right now.

We'll probably sign another Kiwior level defender in this window though.

Clrnc I'm not sure there's been many options (or at least not many quality ones we had a chance to sign). We tried with Vlahovic and it didn't work out. My read on our transfer strategy is that there's a degree of opportunism in the way we approach things: I think we tend to focus on 1 or 2 top players that we think we can actually sign, so long as they fill a gap in our team, rather than only going after specific positions in each window.

Don Pacifico oh then you keep your powder dry for the next window. Don't need to spend unnecessarily and compromise your plans and funds. I'm not talking solely just this season and our goalies but there are many buys that shouldn't have been a priority over the others and we did all of them.

This can be wrong while the rest of your post can be true. They aren't causally connected in my opinion. Spending 250m didn't make Saka and Martinelli worse.

Clrnc I think he'd rather do it by rotating his starting 11 more. Instead, he's ended up desperately trying to play Saka and Marti into form, overusing Rice due to Partey's injury, and playing the only back line that is fit. I wish he'd compromise more on that front, but I can see why he doesn't. It's an unfortunate streak of idealist stubbornness.

OMITT by the way winning by keeping us from talking during games when we concede a goal. Keeps us from venting until after the game is finished and the result is guaranteed 😂

RocktheCasbah that seems to happen every time we concede. I spend 15 minutes shouting for substitutions as its become obvious we've lost control due to running out of steam, eventually the obvious pressure tells and then Arteta makes his subs and I scream at him for being reactive instead of pro-active.

Eddie is not half an athlete. His goals, penalties won are a function of movement, hold-up just as much about finishing. Just bemused with the narrative so i'll call it in.

Clrnc fair. Havertz was a gamble (one I think that could still pay off) and Raya was a fucking pointless signing (until proven otherwise) but I think most other players have been valuable additions to the squad or at least opportunistic signings worth gambling on.

I dunno, I just don't think we've really missed out on 'that' striker from investing elsewhere.

Clrnc if any Liverpool fan came away from today thinking we are shite, I think they're naive at best. We dominated them for the majority of the game. Yes, we're in the results business but if we play like we did today, I don't think we're far off being a team that will punish the best teams in the world.

Qwiss I just can't see how Arsenal get him out of Brentford this window. Especially given the Raya loan situation. Brentford's recruitment is usually great, but selling Toney could relegate them.

RocktheCasbah I don't think they'd be relegated without him. Too many worse teams. Wissa is a decent striker too, if they sold us Toney they could re-invest. Maybe we could even throw in some make weights or a load to help them out. Our send them back Raya.

In reality I think it'd depend on how much Toney would push. And I think he'd push a lot.
