mdgoonah41 it hasn't. We've gotten worse, largely due to injuries and indifferent form, but also, in part, due to some poor recruitment decisions, namely, not signing a CF. The early season emphasis on control seems to have been abandoned over the last month, and we've gotten even worse.

Qwiss every single time I see Ramsdale he impresses me these days. Because our normal number 1 is bang average. No way is his kicking any better than Ramsdale

Clrnc the whole debacle was just unnecessary. If there are 2 major mistakes made last summer its Havertz and Raya. The former because he's just completely wrong for this team and the latter because it was for nothing. I think Raya is a good keeper but he's not better than Ramsdale in any clear way so why bother?

Lukazan yeah, I think I agree with this actually.

I was fuming at him not making more changes than just Martinelli until Liverpool scored and I've just realised the reason he didn't is because he doesn't really trust the options he has to get him a goal from the bench. So bringing Nketiah on almost feels like something Arteta did just because he felt he had to.

So we need another option he can trust, urgently.

The answer cannot be he doesn't trust the players. We have all heard this 4 consecutive years now, after 8 spending windows. He has absolutely built this squad himself, made all the decisions. It can't be every year that he failed we have to revamp the squad again and he doesn't trust the bench again. It doesn't add up.

Clrnc I agree injuries weren't a factor, but not because Liverpool had more or whatever. That's totally irrelevant. They got absolutely ripped to shreds.

Clrnc that's fair enough. But here and now, as Qwiss and Ian Wright say, we need a killer in the team. Otherwise, with these players, were going to have many more days like these.

Every game is the same now: miss lots of chances, concede from a set piece, lose. I am baffled by the fact that we spent 200m to be significantly worse than last season. Turns out we don't actually know what we are doing.

And then we have the same issue at the opposite end. Funny times.

We do need to address overall chance generation though. We don’t create enough. Same story every week.

For so many windows we and majority of the arsenal fans keep saying we need a striker, then we proceed to spend in every single position other than a striker and re signed Nketiah. We are in this mess because of the decisions we made and it has come back to bite us. We spent 250m to go backwards. Absolutely

Clrnc if any Liverpool fan came away from today thinking we are shite, I think they're naive at best. We dominated them for the majority of the game. Yes, we're in the results business but if we play like we did today, I don't think we're far off being a team that will punish the best teams in the world.

You're talking as if converting isn't a part of how good a team is. It's not "making us look much worse." Converting fewer chances is being worse.

Clrnc I'm not sure there's been many options (or at least not many quality ones we had a chance to sign). We tried with Vlahovic and it didn't work out. My read on our transfer strategy is that there's a degree of opportunism in the way we approach things: I think we tend to focus on 1 or 2 top players that we think we can actually sign, so long as they fill a gap in our team, rather than only going after specific positions in each window.

This can be wrong while the rest of your post can be true. They aren't causally connected in my opinion. Spending 250m didn't make Saka and Martinelli worse.

Controversial opinion but I saw a lot of positives today. The result is a real kick in the gut but the overall performance was night and day versus (in my opinion) most of what we've served up over the last couple of months. The variety and unpredictability in our attack is exactly what I think we've been aiming for all season. Yes, we need a goalscorer but if we can nick one here and there, with that chance creation we'll start to build confidence and that will in turn help our goal conversion/hesitance when taking shots.

I'm really disappointed to have lost this game and be out of the cup but if we play like that more often, I do think we'll be a contender in the league/CL, even without that killer in the box.
