I didn't want to comment on this because I think it's such a storm in a tea cup and I have zero interest in women's football, but... you can see that the director cuts away to a different shot which means the first part of the interaction between the bloke kissing and the woman being kissed isn't shown.

It's also weird that in the first frame of the video you posted the woman isn't in the frame at all. It looks like it's edited or something? Not sure what's going on.

I don't see a kiss, in a moment like that with adrenaline all around and emotions running high, as a big deal at all, but if the Spanish FA lied and pressured the woman to agree to a public statement then they desrve all they get. If they actually edited a photo and thought they could get away with it, then I don't even know what to say! I'm going to assume for now that they're not that stupid, and guess the camera cutting away has caused the confusion.

That is actually unbelievable. The whole organisation needs to be removed. Proud of the players for taking a stand. You can even see from the video that he grabs her and kisses her and no mate she did not consent to that. I'm sure that's just what she wanted when she had just won the World Cup a kiss from you on the lips 😣. Absolute disgrace. He was slobbering all over the other girls too. Sickening. Who does he think he is? The fact that the FA is backing him is just depressing.

He was literally hugging, caressing, kissing others on the neck and cheek, carrying some of them over his shoulder, and no one seems to have an issue with that, but a kiss on the lips in the same context is so egregious?

Obviously, if any of these things happened in a boardroom or restaurant or a million other scenarios, if they were strangers, it'd be a very different thing. It's about context.

So, it's fine to hug, caress, kiss on the neck or cheek, pick someone up and hoist them over your shoulder without consent, but a kiss on the lips in an environment where all that other stuff is deemed appropriate by seemingly everyone (it's not a workplace by any meaningful comparison), is beyond the pale and requires explicit consent? I just don't see it that way.

I have a problem with the Spanish FA potentially forcing statements and editing photographs, but the incident itself seems harmless enough.

Why do you think it is that the women disagree with you? Should you reconsider when they think being kissed without consent is a big deal, but you think it isn't?

I don't think 'women' have stated an official position. Some individual women would have a problem with this specific scenario and others wouldn't.

I think if you're a polite, respectful person, man or woman, then you judge each individual situation that you're in and then act accordingly. Perhaps the Spanish FA guy overstepped the mark, I don't know - it seems inappropriate to me, but there was also a ton of emotion and energy in all the Spanish players, coaches and officials in that moment. And I don't know him, I don't know her, I don't know what kind of relationship he has with her, whether they are friends, or anything at all really.

Out of curiosity, do you think the lady was harmed in any way by what happened? That's a genuine question, btw. Not by what has followed, but by being kissed on the lips without consenting in that specific moment? Is that relevant to you? If she had kissed him without consenting in that same moment would that have been a problem? Or if another player or one of the two women presenting medals had kissed her in the same scenario would that also be unacceptable? Curious to know what you think.

I just don't think it's a big deal in the context we're talking about. And I don't think she saw it as a big deal either until social media blew up about it and battle lines had to be drawn.

Does it really upset you (not you personally, Daz) that in a moment of euphoria, gratitude and celebration when all of them were hugging and kissing as tends to be the way in moments like this, that this guy planted a friendly kiss on the lips of (I assume?) the star player? It's not like he tried to snog her something!

Also the power dynamic between the two parties matters. If it was, say, the team physio then it’s equally wrong but can be handled by the aggrieved party. In this instance, after being called out on it, Rubiales is bringing the entire weight of the RFEF with him.

The fact that he called the outrage an example of 'false feminism', has showed no self-awareness or sensitivity to the recipient after the fact, and had his minions doctor photos is all just a bad look and made it all worse. Nevermind smacking kisses all over her face . Fair enough if thats a cultural norm for him, but sounds like it wasn't for her. He should have accepted that, apologised, and moved on. He can then carry on expressing himself that way with those that have no problem with it.

they're willing to die on this hill because they know if they lose this 'fight' it will probably result in alot of further formal review/scrutiny. 'kill it in its cot' mentality
