You could argue getting stuff done in a quarter or month end or even by the end of a financial year (depending on industry) but usually ‘trading’ deadlines are not as strict as football.

of course but that's my point - if there really was a deadline imminent the deal would be done and dusted. But we're not at risk of hitting the transfer deadline any time soon and neither the player nor our squad are even in the country at the moment.

Although there's no imminent deadline, as long as the deal remains unsigned there's always a chance selling clubs and players change their minds isn't there? Would have thought it was in everyone's interest to get players integrated into the squad quickly now we're back training and have some friendlies coming up.

As far as I recall there’s never been an instance when major journalists/the BBC have confirmed a transfer and it subsequently fell through.

Also unlikely that nothing has been signed by Rice. We’re the ones dragging this out, not Rice or West Ham.
