RocktheCasbah I explained six months ago that the "triggered" comment was a joke, why are we bringing this up again? Do you not think if I was genuinely triggered, eg upset about what you'd said, I would have chosen a slightly different way to express this than "triggered (ooooh!)"? I don't know if that is the correct number of "o"s.
You quoted that bit and brought it up. Not me. I was discussing penalties and xG.
RocktheCasbah The comment about West Ham was more about the unlikeliness of them scoring two goals from such a low xG, whether or not you include the penalty, as it was discounting it as important.
Which is the same point being made back then, our games were super tight and we were only swinging xG through the high number of penalties we got earlier on in the season, which was made to seem important because we earned those and forced the issue etc. I didn't see the penalties then as important as they skewed our performances to seem better than they were back then.
RocktheCasbah Regarding me saying I wouldn't engage with you calling Arteta a narcissist, I think that's quite offensive when directed towards a man who has done so much to change the culture and outlook for this football club. Hence not wanting to engage - what is to be gained from engaging with you on that point? "He's a narcissist, oh no he isn't, oh yes he is!" etc. I mean I know we're just about still in panto season, but come on... What you've mistaken for dismissiveness, or talking down is me saying there's no point in arguing, we're not going to agree. Nothing more.
That was one sentence in the post. The full post is as follows and had more to discuss other than whether he is or isn't narcissistic (which tbh you'd be hard pressed to deny as most managers at top clubs are such as Guardiola, Klopp etc and especially and most extremely Mourinho). You just dismissed the rest of the post because you didn't agree with the opening:
Big Willie
RocktheCasbah That being said, his post match quotes today seem to indicate that the way we played today was very much not part of his plan.
Trademark narcissistic behaviour deflecting blame to everyone but one's own self. We've totally revamped the way we played this season, and thats on Arteta. Even early on when we were winning games a number of people like myself were saying its unsustainable and that it'd come back to bite us and were derided for saying we've lucked out with the number of penalties and goals from set pieces rather than actually creating many chances during play.
I'm not ready to throw the towel in yet because we still have it all in our own hands but my word we play some boring, defensive football pretty much keeping possession for the sake of it. We don't play through the middle and just keep cycling the ball out wide then back to the centre circle then out wide again. And it's what we've done for the majority of the season. We need to put more emphasis on attack because defences don't win you games, not that they've been keeping us from losing them recently either. It's a compromise we made that has only made us slightly stronger defensively and much more impotent going forwards.
RocktheCasbah Again, I'll say it - the last post I directed at you in that Bournemouth thread was an apology. If I don't feel like revisiting comments I made six months ago, having already apologised to you for them and that fact makes me a bad guy, then fine, I'm a bad guy, whatever. I'll fuck off, delete my account and leave you guys to it. I need to spend less time living like this anyway.
I accepted that apology, it was fine and in the end we discussed the topic and agreed we saw things differently. I had no issues with how it ended up. I brought up the post today because I was surprised with the way you discounted West Ham's penalty after our last discussion on the topic.
I don't want you to leave and I never said you're a bad guy, sorry if that's what you took from my post as that's not the intention. Just felt you were being dismissive because you disagreed with any of my comments because you felt they were ultimately critiquing Arteta. Just felt that response the other day wasn't necessary even though I brushed it aside at the time. It's only when it kind of happened again today after I began the discussion that it got to me.
I know we don't see eye to eye on these things but I'd still prefer good faith dialogue regardless of disagreements. For example the post I quoted from Coombs we were in agreement but we disagree quite a bit on our source of critique whether from the tactical or player perspective but we usually just go back and forth on why we dont agree and what we think. I'd be happy to continue discussing things in this manner with even those I am completely in disagreement with. And hoping others do the same.
Hope that clarifies my source of frustration, especially from someone who I've "known" for so long and who's opinion, even when we disagree, I respect. And that goes for most on here that I've had the pleasure of "talking" with over the past 15-20 years.
