With his recent form, his growing confidence, this felt like a game to really see what he’s about.
Main thing that stood out was how much he saps the rhythm of our attacks. He’s just so monotonous and un dynamic with his ball progression it’s almost unbelievable. He seems to operate under the premise that building slow drawn out attacking sequences is the optimum way to play football, which brought to mind rosicky who I always loved for being the opposite of that. Worst of all I think it deflates the players around him, who have to slow down to get in sync with him.
At the same time, I thought there were glimpses of what this guy is underneath all that. There were a few moments where he didn’t have time to think and just played instinctually and for the first time you could see there is possibly something special there.
