Like Havertz a lot from before his move to Chelsea like @Clrnc but really we don't deserve shit if we do this, worse still at the 70m fee bandied about.

He's as talented as anyone but a) had three mostly poor years behind him b) plays in a position we don't have c) would cost an arm and a leg and most importantly d) is a Chelsea player, even if he doesn't bomb we'd be 100% helping them balance their books, get rid of a non-performing guy on big wages, fund their acquisition of Caicedo or whoever etc. Ridiculous how we just can't stay away from their guys despite not one of them working out for us.

I don't really get this argument about helping Chelsea, if we won't buy him someone else will. Then also factor in their deals in Saudi & Man Utd being interested in Mount they'll find a way around this.

We are interested in the guy because the manger thinks he will bring something to this side. He got 15+ G/A out of Xhaka last season, I'm sure if he has a plan for Havertz he can fit him in.

We need to focus on improving our team, not worry about other teams.

Hmm, don't really agree with that. If he costs 70m then making us materially better than by simply not signing anyone isn't enough.

Thinking other signings would help us more than what he will is plenty enough reason not to want him. You yourself didn't think we'd sign Caicedo if we sign Rice for big money, so it doesn't really sound like you disagree with it either.

goon Exactly, I mean I completely understand concerns about his fee or about whether he is a good fit. I even understand comments about whether he is good enough because he has not been anywhere near his potential since joining Chelsea.

If the club think he is the player we need to make us better than I am all for it. I think he could be a 15+ G/A player for us, which would be great considering we already have a few who can put up those kind of stats.

Personally I don’t know how anyone could know who’d improve the team more without knowing what the plan is for each of these players.

I like the idea of Caicedo and Rice beefing up our midfield and making it highly competitive. But now we’re after Havertz I also like the idea of him as an 8 and Rice as a 6 - with the option of playing Rice as an 8 and Jorginho as a 6 when the need arises.

goon nobody can know whether their opinion about anything is correct, it's surely about what they believe will be the outcome, as with everything else.

I'm not even arguing against the idea of Havertz here, but your principle that you shouldn't care about his price if he'll improve us even if our budget is limited (at least that's what I got from the part I replied to).

Romano now saying it's 65 not 60. They got him 3 years ago for 71, but part of that were some payments if he delivers on things, that he probably did not. So we will pay them more then what they got him for. He will be the second best paid player at the club after Jesus. Insane.

Qwiss Mokbel who broke this is saying "Havertz will be offered a long-term contract worth a minimum of £210,000-per-week.". I thought Saka was on a lot more than that.

Havertz still managed to get the attention of Bayern and Arsenal (and Madrid to a lesser extent) after his 3 years. I don't think he'll struggle to find a second buyer. He's a very talented player that hasn't executed so far but he's also not had the right environment around him to do so.

The only question is where exactly he plays - he can't play in the Xhaka role and he's wasted as a striker. So if he sign him, he'll have to play as a number 10 or we shift to a system closer to what City play. It wouldn't be too surprising because the signing of Timber and the rumours of ESR moving centrally make sense in this context too.
