Romano now saying it's 65 not 60. They got him 3 years ago for 71, but part of that were some payments if he delivers on things, that he probably did not. So we will pay them more then what they got him for. He will be the second best paid player at the club after Jesus. Insane.

Qwiss Mokbel who broke this is saying "Havertz will be offered a long-term contract worth a minimum of £210,000-per-week.". I thought Saka was on a lot more than that.

Havertz still managed to get the attention of Bayern and Arsenal (and Madrid to a lesser extent) after his 3 years. I don't think he'll struggle to find a second buyer. He's a very talented player that hasn't executed so far but he's also not had the right environment around him to do so.

The only question is where exactly he plays - he can't play in the Xhaka role and he's wasted as a striker. So if he sign him, he'll have to play as a number 10 or we shift to a system closer to what City play. It wouldn't be too surprising because the signing of Timber and the rumours of ESR moving centrally make sense in this context too.

I don't think it's the magnitude of the wages that's surprising.

50m+200k for jesus makes sense when he's coming off a good season and targeting a long-standing problem in the team (number 9). this deal doesn't really compare

Gazza M this, paying this kind money for a player who hasn't looked that great the last 3 years is the problem. It also seems that part of the positive was that we were getting him for a discount which based on his recent form and the price does not look to be the case at all.

And Ramsdale. And Xhaka's contract renewal. And Odegaard (I did), etc etc.

And we were dying for Mudryk at 70m.

You don't see a long standing problem, but we have no good alternative to Odegaard, or even Jesus when he is off form or we need a different dimension. We also need a more robust squad to accommodate more games at a higher level. this signing potentially a takes care of two positions. And if we are able to unlock his inner 2022/23 Xhaka...

I'm just saying. May be right, may be wrong. Let it play out. The guys who took us to second last year and gave us the most enjoyable Arsenal season in a decade have surely earned that? Haven't they?

Thats got nothing to do with anything. We are discussing the ability and value of a player. Not every single thing has to be reduced to a "trust the process" issue.

I didn't call this a crap signing, for the record, just that the jesus one was more obvious and thus not comparable to signing havertz, who brings more questions than answers. paying this price for versatile squad depth doesn't really hold up as an argument either. you spend trossard/lavia money if you want that. I doubt we've convinced him to come here as less than a starter

Well, it sort of is, because if you trust the process, and we have been given very recent reason to do so, then we should also trust the talent ID and, rather than just disregarding this potential signing as bad idea, think about why Arteta wants Havertz and where he might fit.

I mean, I think we can say now, Arteta is a pretty good judge of a player, right?
