Wasn't he compared to van Persie? A ridiculous comparison. Van Persie was one of the most technically gifted players in the world. Havertz looks a bit clumsy.

What's your valuation based on then? There's now quite a few transfers that are bandied about in the £100m price bracket so if you're comparing it to historic amounts for players then 60m seems a lot but this summer 60m will not be seen as particularly unusual.

The fixation on valuation is a red herring. I only use it when I just don't really rate the player eg Ben White. When I do, I don't care how much they cost.

Again - it's not your money. It's Walmart money. The Nation state/oligarch/billionaire clubs (yes, including us now) have tipped the market. It's almost no use trying to determine what's a fair price and what's not anymore.

I think that's fair, the valuation is in part because if we spend those funds on him I feel that means we take away from other positions/players I think we need. If money is no factor and we can bring in anyone we want then I would care less if we wanted to splurge on a player I don't rate. But I don't think that's what will happen at I think it's a misuse of our resources to go for this guy unless we get him for a very low price

That's my gut feeling as well hence why I would not prioritise this one and where my main objection comes from.

Mirth feels like you answered a couple reasons why fans may not be chuffed or happy with the signing in your follow up post: Mirth . Use of funds, uncertainty on position, starting or bench role, debate about his development and consistency in performance over 3 seasons.
lorddulaarsenal Havertz is industrious for sure; he's built that up chasing his first touch over the years.

I'm fine to continue observing how this plays out, and reluctant to prematurely shoot the pursuit down. Not excited to hear rumour we were after Mount. Definitely prefer the Havertz idea over that one (assuming we're looking to bring him in for primary feature at 8)

Amazed people are criticising Havertz’s technical ability and touch. His main weakness has been that he hasn’t found a way to really make use of it and has drifted in games.

If he is as influential and impactful as the last signing who was subjected to similar criticism (a certain Aaron Ramsdale), I think he’d have done fine.

Technically, RvP and Havertz don't compare. Not a chance. Havertz is a fitter player though.

Of all the arguments for signing Havertz, "other players who have been trashed by fans have done well" is by far the worst.

I think it shows that most fans are clueless, and need to chill and let the professionals at the club do their work. After a season where we only just missed out on winning the league and a clear admission / recognition by the manager that we have to "nail" the transfer window, I'm comfortable with trusting their judgement over some randos on the interwebs.
