Getting a tad caught up in the hype. He’s consistent and you’d be buying for the future but no way is he worth the amount touted.
His game is plucky and his peak is a fair bit lower than Partey’s
DiabyKungFu either/or as in that we would've probably played both positions if he was here.
lorddulaarsenal don't do it Dules, we need negativity about this guy now.
lorddulaarsenal if that's the case tbf rice also isn't worth 100m+.
They are all at most worth 50-60m. Just stupid inflation currently in English league and only English league.
QuincyAbeyie either/or as in that we would've probably played both positions if he was here.
"Both positions" as in fullback and 6? If so, I agree. 6 and 8? I don't see that except in the last 10-15 minutes of games we're trying to lock down or (at a stretch) the second leg of a European knockout round that we're actively trying to draw 0-0. I definitely agree that there's a non-zero value to versatility. That's probably where some of the apparent enthusiasm for Havertz comes from.

I don’t think £120m is anything but a bargaining position (if it’s even true), but the deal made their intentions clear imo. They’re going to dig their heels in and make you pay with blood.
Coombs If we are backing out and letting Chelsea have a free run that doesn't mean Brighton are going to be easy to deal with, as we have all found out when they have a price in mind they stubbornly stick to it.
We should hold , let Chelsea blow money on Caicedo , then back off Havertz and leave Chelsea desperate to offload players.
I'm not sure how the numbers work but I think they need to offload players by the end of this month in order to be FFP compliant. I'm guessing that would mean they'd look to make signings in July.
this is a shame. I was looking forward to us being horsepower fc.
Lavia looks a better player to me. Certainly has a better command of the ball
Maybe a slightly raw but that’s something Arteta can assess with his detailed coaching
goon they extended so he would force a move in January. In return he got a better wage. He'll still move this summer.
If we pay £100m for Rice then Brighton should absolutely be asking the same for Caicedo.
Clrnc he is not, that's true
Clrnc nope he’s not worth that either.
Rice however brings more of what we need

Premiums for high profile targets have gone through the roof. Buying players for their ‘fair value’ is almost out of the question.
Ironically the exception seems to be when buying from other big clubs.

Don’t really see how Caicedo will improve us other than adding depth.
Cancelo would be a better signing for the squad’s needs
goon Yeah agree. In fact, I think 50-60m for Havertz is much more of a fair value than 100m+ for either of those DMs.
Also probably why Pool is going for Kone and Thuram, both priced very very fairly and big upside
Havertz has been terrible in the PL for 3 seasons, his value shouldn't be anywhere above what we paid for Trossard who is a better player in more or less the same positions.
Qwiss
You can’t compare the two. Havertz is considerably younger and a proven CL player. Trossard wanted to actively leave which lowered his value as well.
Qwiss yep agree, if we were in a "normal market" he'd been in the 20-25m bracket because he's just not performed for 3 years
Sicario2 - Tier 1
Havertz's ceiling is a lot higher too.
They're not wrong to be asking for similar kind of money
