QuincyAbeyie I wonder if Brighton is playing hardball or if this is it, because the Arsenal I know won't go up to 80m, otherwise we wouldn't have missed almost all of Arteta's first choices. In fact I don't think we have actually gotten a single player that was initially what we wanted lol.

@Clrnc odegaard, jesus and white were first choice deals which we got done. the backup options have generally turned out pretty good at least e.g. zinchenko, trossard. at the same time we did miss out on quite a few top targets as well (vlahovic, raphinha, mudryk). shopping at the top end of the market while remaining responsible is easier said than done. I always wonder if the rando buys like vieira/kiwior impact the overall budget and cause us to come up short with key targets like mudryk and caicedo, or if its purely a case of us being strict on our own valuation of players and we won't go beyond it

White was definitely not first choice. Was Kounde or Tapsoba as widely reported.

I think it's pretty clear money is no issue for us. Just look at the overall spending since Arteta took over, he is backed the maximum then we can go and then some. Remember at the start some of us are critical about White, Pepe fees etc because we were afraid it will impact the next window but it has proved not to be the case. We just keep having new funds to spend even though we sell badly and recoup close to nothing. I do think we have a stubborn maximum valuation for every player though and don't want to look like mugs like Chelsea.

RowJimmy I find the idea that any of us nobodies on OMITT would have insight into how the negotiations work very odd. I'd be delighted to hear who you think we should sign instead.

Agree with this.. It’s hard to gauge how much effort is being put in based on what a Fabrizio reports. Is it a couple of calls from club agents? Or do we already have a room set up with agents, analysts, accountants, lawyers etc trying to bang this out full time.

Claudius Danilo moving for less than 20m euros this window means we won't have this excuse if we fail to bring a CM in.

est We’ve got CB cover and Trossard so not been a terrible window. Mudryk would have been great but Chelsea have fucked the market up.

Need a central midfielder and can’t fault the club’s ambition here but you can’t force a club to sell. Also no point wasting money on a player for the sake of it.

est I think we move much better now then in the past but one thing bothers me. Why do we leave it so late? Always leave it late, I'm missing something maybe? But what is it to gain when you leave it late? The price goes up, the team might not get a replacement, on our end, he misses training, potential games... I don't get it. The DM position has been a problem for us for a few years now, and here we go again not getting a player in. I hope we are lucky but this can turn into something bad very fast. If we want to win the league, Xhaka - Partey must not miss any games, period.

Claudius The club has to be responsible here as well and think of future spending plans. As fans we get carried away but important the club doesn't.

At £70m Caicedo would be one of the most expensive CM transfers of all time. Brighton have to do what is best for them but some people close to Brighton are making it out like we are low balling them.

Gurgen Yeah, whilst I get people's point about needing to bring someone in regardless of the cost, the more we're seen to overpay, the harder it will be to change that perception of us as a club. There comes a point where you have to back away.

Don Pacifico agree with the principle but at the moment it's needs must. This is arguably the clubs final weak spot, so after this we'll be able to take a more measured approach and walk away without feeling like we're risking it all. We all thought Liverpool overpaid for VVD and Alisson but it paid off big time.

Like I said earlier, the issue with regards to overpaying is if you think it's getting to a point where you think that sort of money could get you a lot more with some patience. But if Caicedo is top of the list, then there is no issue.

I was angry when we lost out on four due to our January ineptitude last year, but top four chances come by every once in a while even if it's a long time since we've been in the CL. League titles are more of a 'once in a decade' for the non-oil clubs, so if we're losing out on that one due to Partey breaking down it'll be much harder to take. And it's not like we've had three days to fix it, this is a problem that was already there in the summer.

Getting a Partey replacement is possibly the biggest move we need to make now. That and Xhaka replacement. We already have Lokonga who is some way from performing. We need to get this absolutely right, so we can start to manage down Partey’s minutes. The limited degrees of freedom means this move will be hard.

Last 2 summers we were making moves where it was replacing players who clearly didn’t fit the starting 11 of a Mikel team. Now we have that 11. We need to get this Partey replacement right

Not wanting to pay £75m for players is pretty much just not wanting to compete. All our rivals have paid more for players and not big proven stars either. If you want the best young players this is the price. Caicedo is a dominant premier league midfielder at 21, of course they're not letting him go cheap.

Gonna be furious if we don't get a CM body before the deadline.
