Said this before but he really does remind me of Mertesacker in the way he defends and I mean that as a compliment. It's all about timing, stepping out at the right time or sticking a foot in at the right time. The fact that he's quick and good on the ball is a big bonus.

Was watching him the other day and noticed there were a couple of occasions when he was higher than the rest of the defensive line while we were defending leaving a gap with a forward on his shoulder that could have been slipped in.

It didn't happen but if someone like Fabregas was playing for Newcastle we'd have had a played played through that gap against us whilst being kept onside by the rest of the line.

I'll have to watch out a few more times to see if it was a feature of his game or just rustiness and being unfamiliar with the rest of the players at the back.

He’s so so good. Will be partnering Saliba come the end of the season.

The performance he put in away at Newcastle last season was one of the best displays I’ve seen from our defenders.

Not one great line-breaking pass, not one decisive clearance under pressure, not one precise tackle, intercept or intervention. Nothing wrong with what's there but no one's writing home about it.

Is the idea that no one watches the video, and we just assume that because it's embedded in the post it evidences the assessment?

No. Focus on how he moves and how he touches the ball and strokes passes. Doesn’t need a 200 yard Hollywood pass or a Stuart Pearce crunching tackle followed by a fist pump to display his capability

Dules just loves Kiwior and has been hoping he takes Gabriel's place when there been nothing he's done in all his time here to suggest he is (at least in the near future) anywhere close to Gabriel's level. It's similar to when he was pushing Nelson as someone who will take Martinelli's place last season.

Don't see it as anything more than wishful thinking but if they do end up taking the places of those ahead of them they'd end up being something extremely special and I wouldn't be disappointed at all. Just don't see it happening unfortunately, at least not on merit. That being said knowing Arteta it may happen if he decides to freeze someone out though like he tried with Gabriel at the start of the season.

He’s immense physically. Never see him get flustered either.

I think Dules will be proven right on this guy. He has main character energy.

I'd like to see him at LB with Zinchenko at left 8.

One caveat is that I think Tomiyasu has been immense, and Kiwior has some work to do to displace him, for me. Arteta doesn't really reward past performance, though.

Big lad, very quick, looks good technically and very composed. Main question mark for me is whether he has the aggression and assertiveness required for the top level, but he's doing pretty well so far
