lorddulaarsenal Gabriel has an inferiority complex at the highest level.

Don't think he does at all. Gabriel is one of the best defenders in the league and has a hard enough time as it is without having to worry about covering 2 positions at the same with with Zinchenko running around all over the pitch away from his "actual" position.

Guy is super quick, strong as fuck, tall, great in the tackle and despite what some will have you believe, is very good on the ball. We're honestly lucky to have a player like that on our books. Far cry from the days of Koscielny, Squillaci, Mertesaker, Silvestre, Mustafi, Vermaelen etc.

lorddulaarsenal considering the main issues people have with Gabriel are his supposed mistakes and his on the ball game, Kos had an unnerving ability to make the most random mistake quite regulary. And the less we say about his ability on the ball the better. Kos was probably the best defender we had since the Invincibles but I'm sorry, the pair we have now are on another level.

lorddulaarsenal better than Holding, obviously, and shows great promise, especially physically, but has a long way to go.

He changes dramatically the way we play v when Holding was playing. Firstly the players are not nervous wrecks anymore and can concentrate on their own games without carrying a liability and secondly we don’t play ten yards deeper to protect Holding.

Holding should never play for us again.

It’s beggars belief Arteta didn’t bring the Pole in earlier. I will go as far as saying it’s the biggest mistake of his season.

JK is still a bit raw but has fantastic attributes. Keen to see how he progresses. A really good cover for Gabriel and Saliba in CL next year too.

We were 2-0 up at Anfield and West Ham, Holding wasn't the reason we dropped points in those games.

It is a cop out to just stick the blame on him, a lot of players were responsible. I do however agree with your point about Kiwor should have started ahead of him though.

I mentioned as much, since I watched both matches live.

But it's also undeniable the huge difference when Kiwior came in. He passed the test at St James with flying color which means he will fear little elsewhere in the league too. It might not be that Holding was at fault for any goals or even any poor defending, but the fact he can only clear it to row Z helps to give the opponent possession time and time again and we can't stem the tide. So after watching Kiwior I changed my mind, Holding has to go unfortunately.

Judgement calls, aren't they? I think it's understandable that Arteta stuck with Holding as long as he did (he played very well against either Crystal Palace or Leeds - maybe both?) and I'm not sure that Kiwior coming in would have materially changed the City result, but he's had an undeniably positive effect on the team, which bodes well for such a young centre back, being able to play further up the pitch definitely helps!

I do also agree that Holding should have played his last game for us now he's very clearly one of the players we've evolved beyond, so 🤞 Gabi & Kiwior can stay fit for the games we have left.

Clrnc Could be argued that Jorginho has made a massive difference as well. In the games against Liverpool and West Ham we were excellent for 25-30 minutes. It was just in moments we lost our composure.

And I agree, Holding's time is up here. I like the guy and think despite his limitations he's always given it his all for the club. You can see from the documentary he's always got a smile on his face and well liked. But he is 27 and I think he could do a job for a PL club.

Said this before but he really does remind me of Mertesacker in the way he defends and I mean that as a compliment. It's all about timing, stepping out at the right time or sticking a foot in at the right time. The fact that he's quick and good on the ball is a big bonus.

Was watching him the other day and noticed there were a couple of occasions when he was higher than the rest of the defensive line while we were defending leaving a gap with a forward on his shoulder that could have been slipped in.

It didn't happen but if someone like Fabregas was playing for Newcastle we'd have had a played played through that gap against us whilst being kept onside by the rest of the line.

I'll have to watch out a few more times to see if it was a feature of his game or just rustiness and being unfamiliar with the rest of the players at the back.

He’s so so good. Will be partnering Saliba come the end of the season.

The performance he put in away at Newcastle last season was one of the best displays I’ve seen from our defenders.
