Burnwinter let’s see. Nelson is constantly injured and so can never get a run. He was injured again all summer, so continues to lose momentum, but he has already played this season. Nelson will play because he brings a lot of directness late in the game - so is good cover for our wingers.

We could’ve sold ESR this summer. I think he would have a market, but again he needs to prove he’s fit after his growth spurt related injuries.

But based on the way Arteta has rotated in Tomi, Gabriel, Trossard, Kiwior and Eddie, I suspect he’s already more comfortable with his squad depth. He has Trossard, Havertz, and Kiwior as additional depth versus what he started last season with. He’s using these players along with his previous favoured players. That’s encouraging and continues to show good use of resources he invests in.

Contrast with Wenger who would buy guys like Santos and Perez and then just sit them

Willian drew first blood but Saka well and truly killed his Arsenal career.

You've been Saka's biggest fan since day and you're also a big Pepe fan. Everything you want for Pepe would come at the expense of Saka. We can't play two right wingers. If you think we should reduce the scope of Saka's role to include Pepe, then fair enough. But be sure that Saka's trajectory would also be limited as a result.

daredevil agree with this. Saka is the worst thing that happened to Pepe. Along with that season that our strategy changed to rebuilding the team in Arteta’s image. But Saka probably helped that process along. A bit like Fabregas accelerating the move from the invincibles

Of course we can/could have. Having Pepe as back up to Saka wouldn't have been a bad thing and Saka was always going to oust whoever was in front of him as first choice.

Just because Pepe wasn't the £72m superstar we hoped for didn't mean he was so bad he needed to be binned off completely.

I would expect both ESR and Nelson to leave this season. Must be frustrating seeing Havertz, Nketiah and Vieira picked ahead of them.

Clrnc we should. He isn't playing, is way down the pecking order and if he doesn't get games he wont develop.

goon they're competing for minutes and while ESR is out injured Vieira still isn't getting many minutes.

Considering how many injuries we've had this season are we really in a position to be loaning anyone out?

He did well in his cameos earlier this season, stick to those for now and then build on that.

Doesn't that sort of answer your question? We've had a ton of injuries in his position and he's still barely played. With those players returning by January it doesn't seem likely he'll play more than the odd FA Cup game.

I said at the start of the season I don't really see how we can have both ESR and Vieira. They're competing for the same mins.

goon With Partey's injury problems and then factor in Odegaard and ESR we might end up using him more often than we think. I did like his cameos and bringing him on late to try and influence games. The guy has got a pass on him and we need that in reserve

I do think Arteta was super pissed off after his red card.

This might be true but Vieira has played more minutes than Smith-Rowe. It's within the realm of possibility that Smith-Rowe outcompetes Vieira but I don't see how one can say that he has done so at this current moment in time.
