Don Pacifico in fairness I think Jesus is that X factor in many ways, just not in terms of being clinical. But he creates so much havoc up top when he’s on it.

I think Martinelli and Saka will develop into guys who can win us games with star quality too, that comes from confidence and arrogance more than talent. Salah and Mane didn’t have that in them when they joined either.

The way Martinelli sized up Botman and left him for dust had shades of arrogance to it that comes from having 15 goals in the league.

Despite his shortcomings when it comes to scoring goals one thing that amazes me is how despite being half their size how he gives defenders absolute hell. Physically at times bullies defenders, makes it so difficult for them.

He can keep the shirt, he's certainly a useful player and on his day is near unplayable but he really has been awful since he's returned. And this isn't an outlier, this happened a lot for City too. He blows hot and cold and even those hot spells he's not really lethal.

I don't see us signing a new top striker this summer but we probably should. Baloguns almost certainly off so its looking like Jesus and Nketiah again next season. Maybe the latter can go up another level but I feel like he's getting close to his ceiling.

Watching Nketiah this season and then when Trossard comes in, I feel Nketiah really is not at the level we require even as a squad player. I certainly would not want to rotate him in in any match if theres Trossard or Jesus as option.

For a pure striker with finishing as his strong point, he has also missed as many chances and underperformed his xG as Jesus. So what's the point?

Clrnc he undershot his xg this year but he doesn't usually. Jesus under performs it every year. I still think there's an explosive goal scoring season in Eddie but I'm not sure we can wait for it. I see him as a Watkins type who'll probably score a load when he's 26-27 but never be quite top class.

there is no point to him. how can finishing be your strong suit and you put up shit finishing stats. make it make sense. at least jesus does other things that help the team. if your game is going to cause others to suffer then you better be delivering the goods to make up for that.

Meatwad don't think Jesus has done those other things since his injury though. And Eddies pressing is good. We've been worse since Jesus came back than we were with Eddie playing. Think Jesus coming deep trips us up a bit in build up. Fine when he's getting on the ball and breaking the lines like he was pre-World Cup but when he's not it's a handicap.

Someone like Osimhen would change things for us completely.

but we at least know what jesus' style of play can accomplish in the system. maybe after his injury he wasn't able to reach those levels, but our options weren't only jesus at his best, jesus at his worse or eddie. we saw trossard playing the false 9 and we were much better than with eddie up top and similar to jesus in the first half.

and look i don't even like this whole striker who can't score business. just trying to make the best of a bad situation. and if my options are all guys who can't score like a striker should then i'm going with the ones who bring out the best in others.

Bring Back Kerrea Gilbert It's strange that they came in with a lot of fanfare about being winners and adding that competitive edge to the team, but come the sharp and difficult business end of the season where you would most look to that impact, they've been a massive let down. For Jesus, not just in terms of goalscoring either. He's seemed in a massive sulk for a couple of months now and spends half his time rolling around looking for fouls.

Twas my initial reservation about him. When he's not sharp or confident and able to take defenders on, he is not very useful as he doesn't do very well what a striker is paid to do - score goals.

We need a real one as our number 9. He's a fugazy.

Tam I've been annoyed with his whinging for fouls all the time too. I really think the City factor got into both of their heads TBH. Mahrez is out in the press now saying he's been texting one of our players to slag us off after they took the league from us. They've done a number on them, completely rattled Zinchenko when we played them in February.

Clrnc I think it's probably somewhere in the middle. It's an intangible that is tough to measure but it doesn't mean it wasn't a contributing factor; I think we saw a similar effect the season we bought Ozil in. But it probably wasn't as significant as some of the hype and fluff made out, more likely it was one of a number of factors that contributed to our improved performance.

Clrnc Couldn't disagree more. Character plays a massive role in results. It's not a coincidence that some players/teams/managers are able to raise their game when the stakes are high, but some crumble and produce performances that are below their usual level.

He's not been in great form (since his return from a 3 month layoff from a serious knee injury) and frustrated the hell out of me against Forest, but some of the language and takes on here are well OTT.
