I thought you said every title winning team has a top CF scoring more than 15 goals (and that you looked it up), and now you're saying City didn't even play with a CF. So which is it?

It's just amusing that you're claiming something that's untrue over the last three seasons and using it as a stick to beat the guy who happens to be a key reason why the last three seasons have been exceptions.

Anyway, it's not that deep. Most teams in history have had a goal scoring CF, but the guy you're criticising happens to be one of the guys disproving the rule.

That's exactly the point. The CF shouldn't be viewed in isolation but how the attack works as unit. Jesus has transformed the attack and all of the front four have double digit league goals tally, with Jesus playing a key part in enabling that. Trossard has scored 1 goal in 16 games, yet everyone recognises how the attack went up when he played as a CF instead of Nketiah. Despite, Nketiah offering more goal threat and scoring more goals.

Doc I think there's something to be said for having a player that is very reliable in front of goal. It's not that Gabby doesn't score goals, it's that he misses so many good opportunities (and yes, I'm fully on board with his contribution outside of that).

We normally don't have issues creating chances but when games are tight, it's incredibly beneficial to know that we've got a player who is incredibly reliable in front of goal. I think we've had plenty of games this season, where having that would have won us more points in matches where we didn't play well.

I agree in principle.. Would be great to have someone who is really clinical + do what Jesus does, but thats a 150m+ player imo.. having a clinical 'box' player to throw on when games are tight like you say would be good but I wouldn't want it to be our Plan A as I think that would sacrifice to much of our overall game.. we saw glimpses of it with Eddie

Its about getting the balance right for me.. We have some really top quality wide players right now with massive potential.. makes sense to focus on trying to get the best our of them. Jesus absolutely does that, same with Trossard..

We could totally change things up.. but see no reason why... unless we really go for some elite finisher.. think its no surprise that Pep replaced Sterling with Grealish in the same window he bought Halaand..

I don't think goals are our problem... We are maybe on course to score 90ish goals this season, that more than fine.

Any examples in mind? The only games that have felt like that for me were all during that period where he was injured and before Trossard came in up top.

The rest of the time we've created an abundance of chances. We scored 7 in the recent 3 game run of draws... the problem wasn't putting away chances.

Doc You're talking as if we'd need to play differently for Jesus to score more..? This would've made sense if Jesus played a role where he didn't get to a lot of chances because his position kept him from them while providing for others instead. However, not getting to chances hasn't been his problem at all, it's been putting them away. And I'm not comparing his finishing to some extraordinarily clinical strikers, simply his xG, which is 50 % more than his actual goals (10 vs 15). That's an abnormally large difference.

Might of misunderstood me there, not what I meant at all.. We are playing to Jesus strengths also... His weakness is his finishing, that pretty clear... its if his overall contribution is worth it.. If he is getting around 1in2 as mentioned and playing the way he has for most of the season, then yeah... i absolutely do think so...

I really like the way we play, don't want to change it... having a false 9 is a pretty big contributor to that.

You just need goal scorers, I wouldn't be too caught up in who's scoring them. I actually think it's an overwhelming positive that we're able to share the burden among our 4 most advanced players.

The fact that we've done it with 3 young players who are still honing in on their goal scoring instincts is even better and Jesus has played a big part in enabling that.

Jesus would have been on about 16 goals himself accounting for his injury, which isn't bad for a non-penalty taker.

I don't think anything about our setup is problematic.

goon Southampton (A) was the first match that came to mind but fair that some of the other ones I also had in mind were matches Jesus was out.

I think it goes back to the point you mentioned elsewhere that we are a 'team-centric' club in the sense that if a few players are off, then our game plan falls apart. I'd love a player that help us grind out those wins we don't really deserve with a sucker punch but as @Doc fairly pointed out, those kind of elite players are hard to buy when proven.

So in summary, I think we could do with a player to take us up a level with their individual goal-scoring brilliance but it's probably difficult to find that player at the right price (need to find the next Salah). 🙃

Don Pacifico in fairness I think Jesus is that X factor in many ways, just not in terms of being clinical. But he creates so much havoc up top when he’s on it.

I think Martinelli and Saka will develop into guys who can win us games with star quality too, that comes from confidence and arrogance more than talent. Salah and Mane didn’t have that in them when they joined either.

The way Martinelli sized up Botman and left him for dust had shades of arrogance to it that comes from having 15 goals in the league.

Despite his shortcomings when it comes to scoring goals one thing that amazes me is how despite being half their size how he gives defenders absolute hell. Physically at times bullies defenders, makes it so difficult for them.

He can keep the shirt, he's certainly a useful player and on his day is near unplayable but he really has been awful since he's returned. And this isn't an outlier, this happened a lot for City too. He blows hot and cold and even those hot spells he's not really lethal.

I don't see us signing a new top striker this summer but we probably should. Baloguns almost certainly off so its looking like Jesus and Nketiah again next season. Maybe the latter can go up another level but I feel like he's getting close to his ceiling.

Watching Nketiah this season and then when Trossard comes in, I feel Nketiah really is not at the level we require even as a squad player. I certainly would not want to rotate him in in any match if theres Trossard or Jesus as option.

For a pure striker with finishing as his strong point, he has also missed as many chances and underperformed his xG as Jesus. So what's the point?

Clrnc he undershot his xg this year but he doesn't usually. Jesus under performs it every year. I still think there's an explosive goal scoring season in Eddie but I'm not sure we can wait for it. I see him as a Watkins type who'll probably score a load when he's 26-27 but never be quite top class.

there is no point to him. how can finishing be your strong suit and you put up shit finishing stats. make it make sense. at least jesus does other things that help the team. if your game is going to cause others to suffer then you better be delivering the goods to make up for that.

Meatwad don't think Jesus has done those other things since his injury though. And Eddies pressing is good. We've been worse since Jesus came back than we were with Eddie playing. Think Jesus coming deep trips us up a bit in build up. Fine when he's getting on the ball and breaking the lines like he was pre-World Cup but when he's not it's a handicap.

Someone like Osimhen would change things for us completely.
