Agreed, you don’t want to set a precedent, arguably this is happening because of what happened with Sokratis and Ozil.
Just send him out on loan somewhere if you don’t want him around.
My bad for not reading the full article as I hadn't thought he wanted us to pay him out on his remaining contract for him to go.
That said I thought we had already set the precedent under AW = didn't we pay out Denilson so that he could join the club he was on loan at in Brazil? I don't think it was anything substantial.
As for sending him out on loan IIRC the player still has to agree to go, which is how Nelson didn't go on loan last season and Saliba didn't join an English club.
