Should we perhaps consider Pereira?

I think Pereira is very, very good, but he lacks that burst of pace to really be a top player imo. Fantastic dribbler and technician though, the ball sticks to his boot like a magnet when he plays, and you always want more players like that in the league. I would take him as a squad option if the price is right but I don't think he's what we really need.

Odegaard similarly can play right wing.

lacks buendias mobility and willingness to drive the ball forward though

Things are heating up a bit around this one. Several places claim that we're about to make a bid for him. The rumour is that we were very keen on Buendia in January too and Norwich pushed for Saliba on a short-term loan in return as part of the deal, but we ultimately didn't have the cash to get him.

Also reading that Buendia is supposedly keen on the move, and there was also something about a gentlemen's agreement he could leave this summer if he stayed and helped them get promoted.

My biggest concern is the price (basically what we paid for Partey) in terms of our limited funds.

Wouldn’t pay any more than £30m.

By the way, I’d reports are to be believed and we wanted Buendia in January but it appears settled on Odegaard due to cash flow issues, then that is great hustle by Edu

saw a figure of 35 mil being touted which I thought was somewhat wishful. 30 mil would be incredible value.

30,35. Just get him. That’s half a Pépé

He just ousted Paulo Dybala from the Argentina squad.

Seriously, just go out and sign him. We'll regret this otherwise just like we regretted not signing Mahrez.

No he hated the thought of not signing Mahrez!

Buendia would make us fun again

How so?

£30m and one pound?  ;D

my main concern with this prospect is we end up coughing up another 70 mil for him.

Who does Buendia displace if he were to join? I can't see us spend 30-40 on a bench warmer

i think ESR should play deeper, and then we'd have buendia, pepe, and saka to rotate at LW/RW, with auba and martinelli in the middle. i hope and pray we sell laca this summer and be done with that

Yes where would a player racking up chances fit into our first eleven?

He'd start with ESR and Saka rotating in from time to time. It's nuts that we rely on teens to play every single match.

That doesn't really answer my question...

I like md's suggestion of ESR dropping to CM or even benching so we don't break him. We'd be an injury away from getting truly screwed.

Actually... I didn't see Martinelli ready to start up front yet but it might be a good option, maybe even Balogun? Laca has to be gone

Thought the latest was that Lacazette was getting a 1 year extension? Saw it in another thread here.

Dailymail also says Garlick is determined to make this his first Arsenal signing.

Fuck, probably means Ødegaard is a no-go. Oh well, Buendia is great too (better?) from what I've heard from you guys.

Is he really all that? Scored and assisted a bunch, but looking at his highlights there's something that doesn't sit right with me. Can't quite put my finger on it though.

In theory, if we getting rid of Willian then it could be that we’re looking for a replacement for him, while Odegaard is simply coming in as a No.10

Hear me out:

Willian, Nelson, Eddie, Laca out (35m + 20m p/a in wages)

Buendia AND Odegaard in. (£70m + 11m p/a in wages)

Would leave you with:

Pepe, Odegaard, Buendia, Saka, ESR, Martinelli, Auba and Balogun. 8 players for 4 spots. Overkill near year for sure, but we’d be sorted for the long term.

Kroenke put out a lot of info promising that this will be a huge summer and big spending for Arsenal.

If we are only getting Buendia in that doesn't really work. Everyone is expecting much more. Buendia + Odegaard is probably what we are going for once Willian leaves. Then plus the RB, backup LB and a CM. Anything else would be a bonus

Buendia, Bissouma and Emerson would be a decent summer. That alone would £90m+

Well thanks for setting me up for disappointment.

Keep in mind Sociedad came 6th while Norwich were relegated so that tells you a bit about the quality around them that season.

We absolutely do not need Buendia and Odegaard together.
If we go into the season with a front 4 selection of 8 players we should be fine:

Aubameyang/Balogun
Saka/Martinelli - Odegaard/ESR - Pépé/Willock.

With a 40-50 game season, there’s 1800 to 2200 minutes per player. Saka alone played 3600 minutes this season. Pépé who barely played had 2900.

We absolutely do not need 2 signings.

Yeah I’m mostly there with you Claude. Just not sure where Willock fits. Is it wide or deeper and central, making the runs into the box that we need from that position?

Aubameyang/Martinelli
ESR/Buendia. Odegaard/Willock. Saka/Pepe

That is what you go to war with. You have to remember that ESR is injury prone, as well as Martinelli. There will be enough games for this line up to get through.
