Giroud was a good player for what he was and should have been supplemented by a faster/better striker like prime auba much earlier.

Instead we faffed around for 4 years after the Suarez bid - That cost us the league in 2017 for sure - and brought an inferior player.

Ironically, Nketiah's current goalscoring record for Arsenal is very nearly identical to what Welbeck's ended up being when he left us. Eddie is a tiny bit—but just a tiny bit—more prolific in terms of goals per 90 in the league itself.

Welbeck improved a bit eventually for us, but I think the Welbeck–Nketiah parity does say a fair bit about how low the bar will have been set if we accept Nketiah as a long term option at the club, unless he steps it up a bit.

Clrnc Giroud's goal scoring record after he left Arsenal was actually worse (bar last year at Milan). The difference was that he was used to support the game plan whereas Wenger wanted build the attack around him.

Burnwinter Thats a good point about CF requirements these days playing a part in the scoring stats we see. I seem to be in the minority here but I've got a lot more rope and patience for Jesus and Nketiah at the moment. How long ago (if at all) have both these players had a full-season at CF as the main men. I think is 5+ years ago for one, and never for the other? However the difference in G. Jesus' stats between PL and CL you shared are a bit head-scratching.

Okay, so I think Nketiah is bang average. Mid table club level. Today's performance didn't do much to dispel that feeling. But here's the thing: I feel like I'd be wishlisting him as an option (ala Ivan T.) if he were at another team where he was the undisputed, main man.

So happy for Eddie, that first goal was pure class. If he’s going to play the role as a pure 9 he needs to be scoring goals in games like this. Keep getting in those positions, keep making those runs.

His hold up play wasn’t bad either, just needs to release it a bit quicker and make use of runners rather than holding it.

Was right behind the line of that shot in the Clock End Upper and knew it was in as soon as he hit it.. The life of a striker - as Merse once said, sometimes they go in, sometimes they fly over the bar.

I've found Eddie quite aggravating this season, but someone behind me today said something quite interesting. They think that when he's coming on for Jesus he knows he's second fiddle, but when he starts games he knows he's the man and steps up. I can sort of see that, he started the season very well and then subsided once Jesus was available again.

Excellent today though and well deserving of his flowers - needs to push on now.

To be fair, that's true for most long shots. Most of the time, taking the shot probably won't be the option leading to the highest xG.

Good hattrick but he usually has a mini purple patch once every 9 months. Let’s hope he can produce it v Newcastle away. I think Sheff Utd are prob the worst team I’ve EVER seen at the Emirates in the last 15 years.

Dunno about Newcastle, I'd start him and if he's not on it put Kai in at half time but you'd expect him to hurt Burnley in 2 weeks.

Would you start him against West Ham though? Who are the other options?

His hattrick makes him deserve to start against Newcastle, yeah. If he is totally invisible then I would take him off at half time.
Now, as some others have said, today's setup may have been specially good for him.
