Iwobiiiiii,noooooo.....

He went for 40mill though?

When I hear these names being mentioned as serious squad options for the upcoming season, I want to punch a wall. What people don't seem to realise is that these minutes wiil end up going to Mkhitaryan, whilst the kids will barely get a look in and rightly so.

I've shat on Nelson for a while now, but this is truly his chance to step up. He's not as talented as Iwobi was, but here's hoping he proves me wrong.

No, they will play.

What you have to realise is that you can't have these guys and not give them minutes. They will eventually want to leave.

Want to leave? Two of them are 17 years old....

If they had Hudson Odoi's profile, then maybe but otherwise they can shut up and prove something first.

Iwobi's price would have been the same next season, it wasn't far fetched to bet on that unless we wanted to balance the books now, but we reportedly made a £60 Mn bid for Upamecano.

The same people who think the kids are ready will be abusing them for points their performances may cost us. Saka barely got a look in, in pre season. Nelson is so far from being ready. Martinelli is coming from the lower divisions of Brazilian football. Premier League football is such a different animal.

I am quite upset now 🙁

Really didn't want Iwobi to be sold.

i expect we are going to play with a front 3 of auba, laca and pepe, with pepe nailed to the right side and auba/laca alternating between LW/ST. nelson will get time at LW, and mkh will get time at RW.

the issue is that if we are starting both laca and auba, we dont really have a natural striker to bring off the bench late in games. martinelli surely isnt ready for that role.

Man, I wish we still had Welbeck.

I’d imagine our inability to shift Ozil/Mkhi lead to Iwobi being sold. Had to balance the books somehow, shame it was with a younger talent.

More reasons to be fed up of those 2.

Like I said earlier, Zaha was 23 when he left United. He barely touched the ball for them.

Iwobi simply not good enough, a wasteman.

Had to go.

Where is the ignore function?

We only have two strikers in the entire squad, and they will be starting. Beyond that we have Pepe, Mkhi and then? Three rookies.

Wow, we have truly shot ourselves in the foot.

Get ready for more Ozil outings out wide is probably my guess.

In Nelson's case, he's as highly rated as CHO is. He's got a spot wide open for him now and I'm confident he'll take it. Iwobi didn't, and if we kept him around these kids would get fed up eventually and decide to leave due to a lack of playing time.

We can't really afford to move Ozil and Mkhi on now. We need numbers.

We can't afford not to move them on if its in anyway possible. Getting rid of Ozil on a free would save us £30m alone.

The only thing for me now is maybe Nketiah shouldn't be loaned.

Check on G89 someone. Must be dancing naked with iwobi gone.

good luck to iwobi at everton. i remember his performance at goodison park in the gold puma jersey.

We as a club need to be a hell of a lot more ruthless, we can't just be sentimental all the time. Need to start acting like a big club and if players don't work out, when a good offer comes in move them on. We are getting £40m for him so our investment in him has paid off. I agree ideally he would have made it here but a few flashes here or there isn't good enough. If he proves us wrong fair enough but as long as we reinvest the money wisely I don't see a problem. We've got some great youngsters coming through so this is their chance as well to step up now.

What?  😆

Did Iwobi become world class overnight? I must've missed something. He's an ok player. We're not gonna miss him one bit. I'm excited about what Nelson and Martinelli will do in his position, both have much greater upside.

Why would he need to be that? I'd say the same if we sold Bellerin or Holding. It's about options, and Iwobi is an important one as we're severely lacking in wingers.

I personally dont feel Iwobi leaving will be as big a miss as you do. He does some nice things here and there with no real end product and not a ton of assists either. I don't mind his minutes going to someone like Nelson.

While I am sad to see Iwobi go, I can support this view. You need to prune the tree. Iwobi has had over 120 games in an Arsenal jersey, so sufficient time to state a case. He has been a good player but not a great player. If our ambition is to get back to competing with City and Pool, then we should by all means sell the good players and reinvest in great players like Pepe at each position as much as possible. And do this as ruthlessly as possible, while maintaining a balance of stars, grafters and kids throughout the team

I think Iwobi is a good talent, but £40m is too good to turn down, and we’ve got quite a few talents coming through in the same position.

Can't believe people are angry we sold Iwobi. He's one of our most lambasted players. Make up your minds. £40m is really good as well.

Exciting we will be banking on our trio of starlets for his position.

Gutting we didn't sell Mustafi FFS.

Everton signed Walcott as well and he has done fuck all for them too.

We simply cannot refuse £40M for a player of Iwobi's standards.

I think too many ppl attached to him because he came through our youth rank.

Well said. Arsenal are a business, not a charity. Emery clearly doesnt rate him and feels Nelson is worth keeping around instead, which is fair enough imo.

I could easily get behind that grudgingly if we had replaced Iwobi. At the start of the window we needed a quality wide player to supplement our options because Mkhitaryan and Ozil weren't playing like stars nor were they grafters. We have added Pepe for Iwobi, not sure I am on board with that.

The kids aren't ready in my opinion. We needed a player like Iwobi on the bench, not a frustrating has been like Mkhitaryan.

40m is great business, but the context of the deal is frustrating. We could've really used him as a 2nd unit leader like welbeck was last at times last season

Feels like he's an economic blood sacrifice because we couldn't foist mkhitaryan, mustafi, or ozil onto other clubs, which was the ideal plan. They're not long for this world though - the club is swinging the axe swiftly these days

the most expensive sale of an arsenal academy player right?

Walcott at 23 had shown more than Iwobi has now. £40mil is a great price, it's the timing that's off. We now habe no real depth in attack and unless Nelson surprises us, it will come back to haunt us.

Meatwad wrote:

I think it's the most expensive sale of any Arsenal player ever.

Not happy selling Iwobi if we did not get Zaha. Maybe we tell him sit tight and move for him in Jan with Ozil possibly going to MLS?

Chamberlain?

I don't think its great business. Its 35m + add ons to 40m. He is 23 and improving, he should easily have been 40m rising to 50m kind of deal as Everton is desperate near the window in this inflated market.

I wouldn't bat an eyelid if we sold him and brought like Everton/Zaha in or Coutinho on loan at the very least. I don't like Auba on the wings most of the time and that means the only other LW we have is Nelson which is a huge gamble. The club obviously have more money so we didn't need to sell. It has put a real dampener on what was actually an excellent window.

Oh well, lets move on and look forward to sunday.

Still got time to sell Mustafi abroad.

2016/2017 - 3 goals
2017/2018 - 3 goals
2018/2019 - 3 goals

How much more did you expect to get for a winger with those stats?

Martinelli and Saka can play LW too. We still got ESR as well for the other wing.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that the people who wanted to keep Iwobi are not the same as the people who lambasted him.

Who knows, as unlikely as it sounds, Coutinho on loan might still be a possibility.
